It may surprise all of you how Rich and I met, but first a little background...
I looked at some of his other pics and I had butterflies immediately.
Yeah, I know.... ;)

Then I started thinking... what's wrong with him?? Why is he on the Internet looking for women if he's that good looking?? I decided to write him anyway and he wrote me back! He said that he noticed that I hadn't included a picture and I told him I wanted to Instant Message him for a while before I sent one. He said okay, but later on, when we met, he said that it was weird he even wrote me back because he usually didn't unless there was a picture.
Anyway, we instant messaged back and forth for about a week and I found out that the reasons he was on Match.com were for the same reasons I had checked it out, except that his problem was that the girls he met in Virginia Beach were young and shallow. I finally sent Rich a picture...
and then he sent me his number. When I finally got up the nerve to call him, I waited until I knew he wouldn't answer and I blocked my number because I wanted to hear his voice first. Eureka!! Nice Voice!! So I called him again that night still blocking my number (Never know, right?) He was very sweet, so I finally gave him my number and he immediately asked if we could meet, but I made him wait about two weeks. He now says it was the longest few weeks of his life.
When we first met I knew I was in trouble (he was even better looking in person) and he said later on that he knew he was in love immediately. It took a while for me to let my guard down, but when it did we were attached at the hip and have been ever since. Alex had a little trepidation towards him at first, but Annie took to him right away.
Six months later Christmas came and I gave all of us a family ski trip. When we arrived at the cabin we were staying in, Rich lit a fire and told me to sit down. Then with Alex and Annie watching, he got down on one knee. He told me how much I meant to him and that he had never loved anyone more and pulled out a ring. I don't remember the details of what he said, because I was in so much shock, but I remember saying yes. I think he asked me about three times if I was sure, but I really was. This time I was extremely sure.
Rich even gave Annie a promise ring. The promise was that he would love and take care of all of us. Later I found out that he had asked my mom and Alex permission to marry me and Alex told him I would say no, just to mess with him, so he was really nervous. My mom's only request was that we wait two years to get married, so that we knew that this is what we really wanted.
So a year and a half later (lol) we married each other in a small ceremony at a very old home with only immediate family in attendance.
When we took our vows, Rich was really nervous, because he kept thinking I was going to run off at the last minute.
See the death grip on the back of my head? lol
I wasn't nervous at all. I knew he was what I had waited for my whole life.
Annie ran up and gave him a big hug after the ceremony. I love this picture.
Now this is our family ....
and I love him as much, if not more, than I did the day I married him.
About a year earlier, he had asked for a job as recruiter in his hometown and we moved right after our honeymoon.
The rest as they say is history....
and I haven't stopped smiling yet ;)
We have both been married before.
Rich was married and they had two children during their marriage, Wyatt (now 13) and Hayden (now 10). The marriage ended on bad terms and that's all I have to say about that. Although it's hard for me to bite my tongue.
Anyway they divorced in 2002.
Anyway they divorced in 2002.I was married to a man that lives in California and has come out to see the kids once a year up until two years ago and has not been back since.
That's all I have to say about that.
Now onto us....
I decided to move from California at the age of 30, right after my divorce. I wasn't thinking about dating and anyway I had sworn that I'd never get married again, so my choice of places to live wasn't swayed toward the available men in the area. All I wanted was to get away from California and go some place where people were nicer and life moved at a slower pace. I wanted New Orleans, Savannah, Natchez or even a nice Midwestern state, so that I could get some snow. My mother had decided that she wanted to move too so that she could be by her grand kids. She turned down all the places I mentioned because of the hurricanes and tornadoes, but most especially the snow. She found Mechanicsville, Virginia and liked it because it had mild weather (hello hurricane Isabelle, two years after we moved there LOL). I thought.. why not? It's a small town and they get a little snow, which I love.
So off we went..... I started thinking about dating again after a while and went out a few times, but it was a nightmare. Most men were either married or a lot like what I had divorced. I dated a few, some too young and some my age or a little older, but they were awful. My friend Jamie in California told me that she was dating people she met on the Internet. I had a great laugh at her expense.
Well, another year went by and desperation was setting in. So after a lot of prodding and as a joke (who actually meets anyone of substance this way??) I took a look at the guys on match.com. I searched in our immediate area.....um... not good.... and kept moving outside of it until Virginia Beach (2 hours away on a good day) came up. Low and behold this pic came up of a guy sitting at a NASCAR race with sunglasses and a baseball cap on, but with a really sexy half smile.

Rue,
What a wonderful love story. May all the years ahead of you and yours be filled with more love and joy then you've had in the past.
Thank you so much for sharing, the pictures where great. You put so much thought and love in your posts. Thank you.
Hugs 'D'
What a beautiful story. You are beautiful, but in that pic you sent Rich you were a KNOCK out. Good thing it was him and not me that had to wait on a beauty like you,but then again him on that horse..WOW is all I better say and you know what I think of a man in uniform.
your family is beautiful Rue and Rich!
Thanks so much for sharing your story. He really does seem like an incredible guy, and to give Annie a ring too, how priceless is that! You my dear friend are a very lucky girl! I laughed when you said how you met. My son told me he met his girlfriend at the mall but a few weeks ago she told me the truth, that she had seen him on My Space and left him a comment. She was very nervous that he would be weird and took her time like you did with getting to meet him. They are really cute together. It isn't official but they tell me they'll be getting married next spring. I hope so bz I love her, but we'll see. Thanks again Rue for sharing. I loved it.
What a BEAUTIFUL story! You gave me tears! lol. But seriously, what a wonderful story! You are truly blessed!
Cathy
What a beautiful modern-day love story! He's adorable. That first picture is....WOW. Like you said that beautiful half smile. And the picture you sent him....WOW. How could he not fall like a ton of bricks. The photo was just the beginning because he soon found out what we all know, you're as beautiful inside as you are on the outside.

Wow Rue, I was riveted to that beautiful story. You are both beautiful people meant for each other. This kind of love DOES happen. I am feeling all soft and romantic after reading your journey to a new love. I have a similar story to share, maybe I will one day. Any way that was 45 years ago this past April. I think I will read it again. Smile!

I'm Here....I'm here....sorry I am so late...we have been swapping rooms around and the roll top desk weighs a ton...had to take the doors off the rooms just to get it to go thru...but I have been chomping at the bits just to get here....where is that kleenex box...oh girl it was like reading a beautiful novel.."Miss Scarlett that Capt Butler is a keeper for for sure to have proposed to you in front of them that way...it takes a special man to show such love and kindness like that." Ohhhh 20 yrs from now I want to read the sequel to this love story!!!! lol
God has blessed you indeed! He just saved the best for last....
Once again, little sister, I am late to the unveiling!
I am amazed at this story! One of these days, I will post how I met my second and keeper of a husband! You will be shocked at some of the similarities. For now, let me say, except for the fact that you are young and gorgeous, we have quite a lot in common.
((hugs)) Rosie
That is so sweet! I've heard about so many success stories with match.com. I tried it years ago and went out on a lot of first dates but not many second dates. Maybe it's because I live in California! lol
Your blue eyes are so beautiful!
Cindy
Great story! I too met my hubby through the internet. I'll have to tell the story on my blog one day. I love your story! It's so great that you all get along so well. It was definitely meant to be.
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog. It's a real pick me up! It's amazing how a gal I have never met can leave a comment on my blog and make me feel so much better! :). It makes you feel as though you've been thought of which is nice. Thanks again!
Was away for a few days and came back to the wonderful news about your brother, and a love story that could instantly be made into a hit movie! I do so hope that the next chapters of your life are written in the farmhouse and that they include a "happily ever after". After everything you've endured, you deserve that kind of happiness...Nancy
A DELIGHTFUL story, by a DELIGHTFUL "Pretend Daughter", about a DELIGHTFUL outcome of two DELIGHTFUL people who fell in love~~~ so heavenly, Heather!~~~ Love, "Mom #2"
Heather; I just love your blog!!!! jojillia
Hi Rue,
What a beautiful story, I'm so glad that I keep tissues next to my computer.
Cheers Linda
I love a great love story!
What a beautiful and precious story of your love. Thanks for sharing. I think the first thing I noticed is how hubby leaves you notes on your blog and I always think that is so sweet and wonderful that he can share his feelings so openly. He definitely sounds like a keeper.
Betty
Oh Rue..sniff, sniff..you knew I would LOVE that story!! First of all you two are ENTIRELY too beautiful!! Yeah, that horse photo..hubba,hubba! But of course how could he NOT want to meet you after seeing your photo..hot mama!! You all look like the perfect happy family in that wedding photo with the kids. Too sweet! I love the fact that he was so respectful to ask your Mother and son first, then to give Annie that promise ring. Yep, I'd say he's a keeper. I too was a single mom w/kids when I met my hubby. It means the world to any mother for a man to be wiling to accept/love someone else's kids as their own. Aren't we blessed? Here's to living happily ever after!!
Big hugs,
Brittany

Hey friend! What a sweet story! Thank you so much for sharing it.
And you just made my day! Oil of Olay - it can help you look younger too. Not that you need it! I never would have guessed we were almost the same age. I just figured you started having kids at 12! HA!
I only have 1 friend who really shares my interests and she's so busy raising 5 kids that we don't get to do much together. I don't know how far west "Small Town, Ohio" is but I keep hearing about an unbelievable flea market in Rogers, Ohio. It's in eastern Ohio. One of these days I'm going to drive over to check it out.
What a lovely story! Thank you for sharing it...It is so wonderful to find one's soulmate, I know (I was lucky, too) :)

What a fantastic story! Thank you so much for sharing. I have been dating from the internet for a long time now, and while there are some real stinkers out there (and boy have I found them), there are some really wonderful men out there too. You sure picked a winner! I don't blame you for emailing him when you saw his pics! And that picture of you is just stunning! After having no idea what you looked like when you were first writing, I bet he just about fell off his chair when he saw that!
I'm so happy you found your soul mate. It's sad that your exes are such jerks, but it seems that the blended family you have created is warm and loving. Hopefully you will be able to have the boys more often. Your story gives me hope that one day I'll find my soul mate too!
Kady

Tom and I met on the internet also, 10 months before we married. I lived in Wisconsin, he in Michigan...301 miles apart. God showedd us from the very beginning that it was meant to be. So many people said "oh my, what coincidences"...but, we would always say "God-incidences".
I was 55 when we married in June, 2005 and Tom 61.
We're truly blessed.

Your story of how you met your husband is so sweet! I am so glad that you have found the right one, and so much happiness! :) Oh, and Happy New Year! :)
Oh I'm crying! Tears of joy for you both.
What a beatiful story! That photo you sent him is stunning! How could he not want to meet you!
I'm married to a soldier too, some of them have a reputation, but like you I've got a good one!
What a beautiful love story! I am married again...also to a military man (now retired). They are keepers!

I loved your story. I always love to hear how people meet! I love that you were cautious and careful, smart thinking especially for a mom!
Hi Rue-
You don't know me at all but I am pretty much a new blogger and I was on my friend Joyce's blog reading about her wonderful Easter decorations and when I went to comment I saw your comments and the beautiful photo of you and your husband. Then I read your story and I was just in tears from it, you really touched me and I am so glad I was able to read it. You seem to a person who has a wonderful outlook on life and love and I can see your truly blessed.
Thanks for sharing your story for all to read. I was having a really bad morning and then I read this, Thank you

What a hoot! I just love your story. It makes me feel like there is still hope in this old world for good things to happen. Thanks for sharing it!

Dear Rue,
This touches me because it is so similar to the story of Veto and I... he also gave Loopy a promise ring. In fact, she got her "engagement" ring before I did! It's so tiny for her now but she wears it on a chain around her neck.
Someday I will post our entire story too.
xoxo

What a great story.
I loved it. Very, very romantic. The pictures were wonderful.
I found you on Gaston Studio's blog and read what you wrote. I felt the same way. I have wondered why she ever visits me.
I love that woman..she is interesting..and has amazing stories to tell and is so forthright.
You have a wonderful and interesting blog...and as she says, it is just different.
My life is and has been boring compared to hers.

Hello there,
I found your place via Red House's blog.
Like others here, I sit here with tears in my eyes. What a love story--and it sounds like you two are wonderful people who just needed to find each other.
I wish you eternal happiness and a splendid Monday.
Thanks soo much for sharing your story.
P.S. Love the music too--it completes your profile quite nicely. :)
Rue, what a wonderful story! I met my hubby at the age of 32 through Together Dating Service in 1984 - before the internet was easily available. You can read about it here >>> http://camelliacottagediary.blogspot.com/2008/11/match-made-in-heaven.html
What a sweet, romantic story!
Rue;
I'm a sucker for a tale of romance! And, yours is wonderful. I can understand your thoughts when you saw his online photos. How cute is a guy on horseback? And who can resist a man in uniform? I once dated a man in the air force and, oh my; the photo of him in his airforce dress uniform was HOT! Love your blog!

love love love your blog!
I just stumble across your blog, but after this beautiful story (and seeing your kitchen redo!) I had to subscribe. Beautiful story and beautiful family.
Ah that is just so sweet, we all have a soul mate out there, some find them other don't and ye have obviously found each other :)
All things nice...
