For instance the picture below is of me (and my brother) at about the same age as Annie now and although it seems like and is a lifetime ago it also feels like yesterday.....
Lord almighty... where did that body go? Oh yeah, I had two cesareans ;)Anyway, as I was looking, I came across some pictures of houses that I had lived in and I thought I'd share some of them with you. Warning though, this is before blogging and a long long time ago, so they are not the best quality. Oh and you may also notice that there's no mention of men except Rich in this post, but I like to live in a land of make believe where there never was anyone but him, so I hope you'll understand ;)
First up is my old bedroom when I was between the ages of 10 and 15. It's the last house we lived in were I grew up in Arcadia, CA. It was also the first room where my mom let me have a say in decorating it.
This is my desk and I used to show horses, so those are my awards on that lamp.
This is my dresser and you can see I was already making vignettes and collecting ;)
This is a picture my little brother took of me (and a friend) with my hair wrapped in a towel. At the time I wanted to kill him, but now I'm glad he took it, because it shows part of my bed and the window treatment. Look how big that corded phone is! LOL
I cut my friend out (lol) to show you a closeup of the wallpaper my mom let me have in there. It was a big deal because Olivia Newton John had it in her house and it was all about her in those days. Grease was the word, even a few years later ;)
You may recognize this... it's my great grandmother's hutch that's in my house now, but back then it was in my mom's breakfast room that.....
you can see here. I loved this room.
Sadly, my mom has all the pictures of the front of this house, but I have a couple of the backyard. That's our dog Maggie jumping out of the pool.
Here we are posing for a family portrait out there. You can tell it's the 80s by my lopsided hairdo... yikes!
After that house we moved to Santa Ynez, CA (by Santa Barbara) when I was 15 and I can't seem to find any pictures of the ranch my mom bought (she has those too), but I do have a few of my very first house that I bought a few years later.....
It's also the house I lived in when Alex was born.
This is one of the only pictures I have of the inside. It was all about primitive country back in late 80s and early 90s ;)
This was my second house (still in the same area, but in Solvang, CA) and again the only picture I have of it without a bunch of people in it. This is the flier from when I sold it.
This was my third house and I bought it when I followed my mom up north. This is in Pacific Grove and it was new construction in a town filled with Victorian beauties that I couldn't afford (sigh). It was really cute though and Annie was born while we lived here.
Here we are in my bedroom. Can you say dramatic? (lol) It's where the devastating accident happened to Brownie (my stuffed dog). We only lived there for about a year.
This was my fourth and one of my favorite houses in Pebble Beach, CA.
It was only about 1600 square feet, but it was so charming. I loved everything about it except the size back then. Now I wouldn't care. I don't have a picture of the front after we bought it, but I tore out all the vegetation you see out front and put in a beautiful green lawn by myself. I was very proud :).
Pay no mind to the little monkey on the chair (lol) This is the inside and it was so small that in this picture I am standing in the kitchen and you can see the whole house (dining room and living room) except the bedrooms. Oh... but it had a beautiful bay window that you can see to the right. Loved that!
Most of Annie's baby pictures from the last post are taken in this house, so if you go back you can probably see a little more. Here's the living room at Christmas. Do you think I had enough furniture squeezed in there?
Finally here's the last house I lived in before moving into this one. We moved from California to Virginia and I had hopes of buying a horse one day. Little did I know that I would meet Rich and it wouldn't happen. Although getting Rich instead is a pretty good deal ;)
Here's the house from the road.
You'll also see the kitchen from this house in the last post with my mom and Annie in it and the living room with Rich and Annie, but this one is of the dining room (Those are the curtains Nikki).
Oh and I cannot believe it, but my mom has all the pictures of her old farmhouse in Virginia and I'm stuck showing you this one. That's me in a rental car that I was making fun of because it looked like a peanut M&M (lol). Anyway, that's the house that made me realize that I could do most of the work on an old house by myself, because my mom and I did all of it ourselves, except adding on the family room and the really heavy construction. Among other things, she pealed and scraped paint and I painted and painted for about 2 years. We were really proud of it too.
When I moved to Ohio with Rich she moved out to Arizona to live closer to my brother and she sold it about 2 years ago. She loved that house too, so I still feel guilty, except that I know that she's much happier in the Arizona sun and living near her newest grandson :)So that ends the tour of places I've lived, except the house we're in now and yes, I know... we moved a lot. I hope you had fun taking a glimpse of my houses past :)
Thank you so much for all the sweet birthday wishes for Annie. She was thrilled! Oh and if you think you cried... I could barely see the computer as I was putting it together! Thank you again....
hugs and love,
rue

Great post, Rue. I loved touring all of the homes where you have lived. I've lived in quite a few, too. Thank you for sharing your memories.
The post you did about your sweet Annie is wonderful.
Thank you for taking us dowm memory lane with you. I wish more people would get out some photos of the homes they have lived in. I might try that myself, when I get the time.
Hugs,
Chris
I love that house in Virginia. I lived there for 7 yrs, about 30 minutes away from Williamsburg. That house would be a dream house for me! ~Beth~
Oh, that was a fun tour!! You've always had the knack for turning a house into a home. Sally
You've owned some very nice homes. I've moved alot too but I wish I would have taken more pictures of the houses as they were before and after the work we'd done. It's amazing the difference. You do turn houses into lovely homes!
Loved the tour, Rue! Thanks so much!
It's fun to go down memory lane.
Ciao
All those homes look nice but moving I hate!
So if I had such a portfolio I would also probley be rocking in a corner!! lol!!

Rue, we were out of town all weekend and I missed your post on Annie and her birthday but I still want to say a belated Happy Birthday and thank you for sharing your lives. It was so sweet.
I love your house tour.
Great house tour! You've lived in some interesting places too.
I love that Olivia Newton John wallpaper :) The pool in your childhood home was off the charts!!!
Hi Rue...this is what memories are all about! Loved the tour..;-) Bo
Hi Gigi :)
Yeah.... my mom went a little nuts back then. I didn't let my friends come over unless they were good friends, because I was really embarrassed and even now, I was unsure whether or not to post it, but I feel that I need to be myself here if anywhere and I try to live by one of the quotes on my sidebar:
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
– Theodore Seuss Giesel (Dr. Seuss)
Hugs,

Hi Rue!
All of your homes were wonderful!
That Virginia house was spectacular!
Can you believe I've lived in the same house we bought 32 years ago and it's on the same Brooklyn, NY block that I grew up on? My Mom live seven houses away from me!
It's tiny but I love it, and yes I still have much of the same furniture I bought from Ethan Allen 32 years ago -- lol-- soon to become antiques if I hold on to them!
I've always felt like a small town girl even though I live in the big city since I've lived in almost the same place 55 years!
I love to travel to see new things, but coming home is always the best part!
Hugs, Pat
Oh my goodness...that phone is huge! Lol. I like the Virginia house the best I think...it looks so cozy. :)
OH how fun. Last year I traveled back to Colorado to see the house that I grew up in. When I was little, I thought we were rich and lived in a mansion. I couldn't believe how small the house seemed. Aww, the good ole' days.
Enjoyed going through time with you.
Betty
Rue, this is such a neat post! It really makes me wish I'd taken more photos of the other houses I've lived in.
The farmhouse that you and your mom lived in was beautiful! Did you mow all that grass?!
Have a wonderful Monday :)

Oh my! Ms. Tee I never lived with my mom after I turned 18! We could NEVER live together again LOL I love her though. That was HER house :)
Rue..I loved the house tour...I don't know which one I like the most each one had it's own special features...I have never lived in a house more than six years until we moved here and we been here 7 1/2 already! lol Great post girl! Hope you are having a fantastic day sis...this is a new month girl...Thanksgiving is coming...Yahoo...I still remember your beautiful dining table set for Thanksgiving on RMS..glorious!!!! lol Take care sis!
Good Afternoon Rue,
What an amazing tour of your past...it brought back a flood of my own memories as well, but then, you are so good at doing that :). Thank you! I had a blast!
Hugs,
Kathi :)
Rue,
I love this post, and I really enjoyed walking down your memory lane. Favorite houses, yours are lovely. You know I moved alot too, and I love moving. I am forever falling in love with houses too. Moving for Ned's job also gave us an opportunity to live in houses from other countries. Maybe after moving often you begin to truly enjoy the thrill of making all your treasures look new in the brand new backdrop and going on the adventure of discovering new people and places.
Karen
Well that was a fun tour! And who's surprised you were decorating and making vignettes even at such a young age! The fabulous decorator was always in you!
Oh and I was laughing that you figured Rich was a fair trade for not having a horse. Does Rich know how much you gave up?? lOL I guess it's a good thing he has a great butt...or you'd be riding a big old horse and he'd still be looking for the perfect woman!
Great tour! I love to look at old photos. thanks for the sweet comments those boys almost killed me today:)
julie
Thanks for the fun tour of homes. It's fun to see each one. Happy Monday.
Kathi
Hi Rue, It was fun learning a little more about you! I enjoyed the house tours! Thank you again for the tassel purchase! You name has been entered 3 times for the giveaway. Good luck! Nancy
How fun to see your steps that you have taken in life. I believe Annie looks just like YOU!!
Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach are wonderful places to live - lucky you! I love the area so very much, as you well know from all of the posts I write about going there.
Thank you for taking us down your memory lane - a fun time for sure.
xo

Hey Rue,
I love how the hairstyles reflect the period. lol
That was a huge bedroom with the "Olivia" wallpaper. And how lucky you were to have your own phone in the bedroom back then. So different now where all kids come with their own cell phone isn't it?
Thanks for sharing.
Hats off to Dr Seuss! Words to live by.
Lisa & Alfie
Wonderful stories, Rue! Loved the house tour, too. And I cried about Brownie. What a sweet, sweet story and a precious dog. I love the fact that he's been sewn together. It gives him character!
My best friend's daughter has a bear named Teddy that her grandmother gave her, and he has very little nap left. Finally, her grandmother came to live with them, and Mary Anne left Teddy to look after her 95 year old grandmother. So sweet! I'm a sucker for a tender story.
Love to you,
Sheila
I really love looking at homes! It was fun to take an online tour of your former homes!
Kady
Rue,
Thanks for the trip down memory lane of your beautiful houses. I loved the wallpaper you had as a teenager.
I've probably moved 15 times and I don't even know if I have pictures of all the houses.
Gretchen
Rue loved the house tour girl..the pool your mama had was a beauty girl..and had to laugh that Rich was better than a horse?? did I get that right? you know how I can mess things up..Thanks Rue for coming by ..means alot to me..hugs and smiles Gloria
You have lived in some beautiful homes. I have only lived in 2. Annie looks just like you. :)
Hugs~ J.
Such a fun tour and Rue, your tribute to your darling daughter knocked my socks off.... :) Lori
Rue-
I grew up in So. Calif. (Huntington Beach) and I loved the pics of your house with the 80's decor and your fashion and hairdos from that decade. Reminds me of mine at that time! I think we must be the same age :) Your house in Virginia was beautiful, I live in Northern Virginia now! I am a happy transplant to the East Coast though...I am in love with the beautiful seasons and the nice people. I don't miss California, just my family thst still lives there.
Fun post, Rue!
Hi Rue, thanks for reminding me not to crop my digital pictures toooo close. The rooms that our lives are lived in need to be recorded too!
I enjoyed this stroll down memory lane. I often wish that I had more photos of places and events from my childhood as well as the early years of our marriage.
Oh, Rue!
All of your homes, EVERY one, was just beautiful!
I'm not sure if there is a favorite, for me, but I do love the 5 acres and that home and barn.
I'll bet that was tough to leave behind.
But you have a wonderful husband and family and home is wherever they are! I hope, for you, though that you and your sweet family will have the beautiful, old home that your heart desires.
Many Blessings,
Julie
Rue, I can't believe I missed more of your posts. I was sick a couple of days and the whole world passed me by.
You have lived in a lot of different places. I think it is a miracle, written in the stars or something to have found Rich. I can see your love of decorating runs through each home you have lived in these past many years. I loved your journey of homes and your life. The photos are fun and serve as a memory, it is plain to see.
Love...Jeanne
Great post Rue! WOW, that ONJ wallpaper was really, uh... something! LOL!
That swimming pool was the BOMB! How neat!
Loved the Virginia house and land. (And curtains!) And that fab light fixture!
The Solvang home was gorgeous too.
I love that you're a furniture hoard like me. I have way too much furntire for the size of my house but I don't care. And I'm always looking for more, LOL!
Hey Rue!
What a fun post....I loved seeing all of the homes you lived in! They are all pretty....I especially like the one in the ad before it sold...and the one with the 5 acres....oh hek, I'd take any of them! LOL!]
xoxo,
Queenie
What a fun post! I have very few photos of the homes I grew up in, which may be why I'm so obsessed with taking photos of my homes today so that my kids will have records of them to look back on. -Julia
