~Sue in Dayton
I love the transformation. Who would paint over wall paper? LOL
The white makes it all pop!!!!! So pretty and you did a great job:)
Wow, now that really looks great! Isn't this what you were hoping to do in the beginning? The white really freshens the room. The whole room has come together beautifully! It's really terrific.
Kady
You are such a ball of energy!! When we had old houses, I would usually start things like that, but then Bob would get home before I finished and would bail me out. Our little jobs like that always turned into monster projects, however. You were lucky this time!! Now go enjoy the fruits of your labor. Sally
Gee rue you are a Power house!!
It looks so fresh and classy.
Ties in the built in too.
I feel ill when I read of all you do,I need to do so much here but can't find the energy!!
LOVVVVVVVVVVVVE IT.

Wow, totally fabulous!!
Rue I love it!!!!! You know Rich will too! lol Are you gonna add the picture frame molding in the future? I am so wanting to try that in my home....girl I started to paint the bottom half under my chair rail the other day while Bill was at work But I thought I might better wait till he gets the new TV in...he is still alittle flustered at Sears and a drastic change in his enviroment might throw him over the edge! lol lol I love how you put that pretty plate in the frame like that...all that gorgeous eyecandy to behold!!!!! I love it girl! Love you too! ♥
You my dear are a worker bee, a very busy little worker bee!! The room looks fantastic, as I knew it would! I just wish I could bottle some of your energy, mine bottle seems to be empty! Great job! Sue
Wow! That is incredible! What a great job you have done.
Oh, Rue, This looks awesome! You are one fast gal! I'm impressed that you did this in one day!! Wow! I've decided it's called 'being young'!;)
Now my breakfast room is like your dining room, as far as the colors go. I have red walls and below the wainscoting I have white! I do love all your beautiful things. Again, I'm so proud for you and your family to be in this wonderful home!
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)
Rue you busy thing you...this looks wondeful girl...Oh I wished I had your energy ...bottle some and send to me...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
Red is my absolute favorite color! I LOVE what you did...it looks wonderful!
That really made the difference for that room. Good thing that happened!! You did good Rue!!
I was getting nervous because I thought you were totally getting rid of the red and I really love the red. It looks so super great with the white below the chair rail and the white corner cabinet is stunning!!! Great job, Rue! I can't believe you did that whole thing in one day. It's beautiful!
Old houses contain their share of srurpises! Some are good, some aren't....ask me! But this time you got a good surprise! It looks REALLY nice. I love it and all your stuff in it! What a good girl you've been!
That is a wonderful redo!
I can't believe you did all of that in one day! It would take me at least two weeks...because I always get side tracked!
It makes a huge difference in the look of the room!
Much...much better!
Your dining room is now finished! Right?
Great job! I can't believe you did it all in a day. I really love, love, love that built in cabinet! That and the window in the foyer are my favorite features of your house.
I think it looks great!! I want you to come to my house next.
Wow, that makes a huge difference. I love it!
Wow! I admire your dedication and hard work! It looks wonderful! I envy you and your time so much right now-I barely have time to just keep up around here-keep up the good work my friend and keep us posted-it motivates me!
WAY TO GO BARNEY!!! I LOVE IT!!!
Hope you are having lots of fun!!
Love ya
Fred:)
The amount of energy you have amazes me!
The white on the bottom really makes the room look so much bigger.
We have the orginal light fixture in our foyer and I don't think the house would look right with something modern. I wish the dining room still had the original in it. :(
~WOW~ I am impressed. :)
It really looks fabulous!
Oh my,you've out done yourself girl. I love that corner cabinet and the way the shelves are curved. You have made this room sparkle with personality. Love it, love it, love it.
Did you get up before daylight and go to bed in the weeeeeeee little hours of the morning? Cause that is some job done wonderfully! Oh and I cracked up with the blog title and the 'I think he passed out'. He might not ever leave you 'home alone' again!
Dear Rue you are quite a girl. I love the look of your dining room now that you painted it white. Removing that paper must have been a terrible job. It was all worth it. Your glass looks beautiful too. The careless paint mess was not at all attractive.
Most of all I love all the beautiful furniture and collection of pretty dishes, etc. The whole look is very elegant.
I forgot to mention how much I like the changes in your kitchen too. My goodness you have been working so hard.
Don't worry about when you visit. Everyone knows how busy you are. I have slowed down too, because of this surgery. It is three weeks today. Time is all it takes and lots of it.
I commented on your previous post too.
Hugs and love...Jeanne
Wow! You've been busy and it is so prtty! I love your plates too, Rue!...Christine
Rue it looks great! I hope Rich didn't hit his head when he fainted:0 lol Have a wonderful week
julie
You did a terrific job, it looks great. I like the white cake plates on the sideboard, it pulls the whole room together...
Sue...the other Rue.
Rue, your dining room is beautiful and it's so big!
Now, please tell me the wallpaper came off because of the water damage...we just textured and painted over wallpaper. It's perfectly adhered to the wall though so I think we are ok.
It looks great with the white at the bottom!
Hugs,
Cathie
Isn't it so much fun when you start ripping and you can see the potential? I woild have done the same thing ...the white bottom makes the upper wall color, the molding and beautiful furniture just pop! Great job Rue! One appreciates it so much more when you do it yourself!!
Debra
Oh Great One ... I bow before you in tribute to your strength and bravery (and curiosity too!)
What a wonderful transformation!
... and thank you so much for that lovely compliment!
It looks glorious Rue...and wow. You have done more in your house in a few weeks than we have done in 7 years! Okay, now I am depressed...*grin*
Love,
Sue
It really looks gorgeous! I love that shade of red! Do you have any idea what the name and brand of paint that is? I am wanting to put some red on my walls, but the fear of the unknown when it comes to the way different shades look in real rooms has put me off.
SO~
What did you do all day?
*snort*
Looks awesome girl! I'm glad the paper came off easily for you, and you were able to do some "investigating".
And the glass looks WAY better without paint on it, gotta love the razor blade's may uses, lol!
You never cease to amaze me H! I'm blown away you did all this in one day. I love it! And your furniture placement is perfect. You're on a roll girl ........
Love and hugs, Sue
What an adventure your blog is! Thank you for sharing!!!
WOW! WOW! WOW! I cannot believe you accomplished this beautiful room in one day. It is SO gorgeous and SO stunning. Love it. laurie
Fantastico!!! This really brightened up the room and made the red on top pop! I love it with your furniture in it and I think it really makes your furniture the focal point. Love it! Once in our old house Larry went to Texas for two weeks and when he came home I had ripped off all the baseboards and trim and was in the process of replacing them! We had just bought the house and it was that ugly 70s dark pretend wood. It looked so much better when we put up real wood baseboards that weren't cocoa brown! He gets nervous when he sees me with a crowbar or pry bar now!!
Hey sweet Rue :) I can't believe you got all that done in one day, either - it looks absolutely great! I love how you've decorated it all. It looks wonderful and so cozy & home-y. :) HOpe you have a great week~~ {{hugs}}
Rue, your dining room is gorgeous! I cannot believe you removed the old wallpaper, sanded, prepped and painted in only one day! You did a fantastic job. I love your home! I'm amazed each time I visit your blog only to see another beautiful room you've put your touch on! You are truly amazing!
If you ever want to get rid of any extra energy, please send it my way!
Donna
Rue I am so happy you found that place and started rippin' and tearin'! Much better. Just the ticket!
You remind me of myself in the good ol' days when I had a good a back and hands that worked properly to do similar projects and "surprise" J with the results!
Great job!!
Great job. It looks beautiful. Aren't you sad they took out the pocket doors? I love pocket doors. So much easier to decorate around that doors that get in the way.
Your dining room looks beautiful. When can I come over for dinner? :)
The white looks GREAT! You don't waste any time getting things done. Want to come visit me for awhile...we've got nice weather here in CA!
I cannot get over, Rue, how much you've done! You amaze me. This really looks great, and I love that you're having such fun with your new old house. I'm so, so, SO glad you got this one. I love it. It's charming. Kinda like someone I know. :-)
XO,
Sheila :-)
And now no one should dare to say that you didn't inherited your mother's talent and energy. I can only say WOW! One day - WOW! Awesome!!!
Smiles to a power woman! Suzy
I love it!!!!Kathy
Looks great. The lighter color on bottom really brightens the room.
Stunning, what a difference that made. I love your spoon collection. I've often thought about starting one myself, getting one at the places we travel to. But, I should have started years ago, I guess. :)
Hugs,
Chris
Just beautiful!!!
that looks great. That was a nice surprise your house had for you.
Carolyn

It just really brings the room to life. Great job girl!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! That looks great, I just love old houses.
I have an award for you on my blog.
Hi Rue:
LOVE THE ROOM, just gorgeous, I would have done the same thing. Are you going to try the picture frame molding, think that would be the sprinkles on the ice cream. Can't wait to see all the finished rooms. Keep inspiring us.
Rue, all I can say is this beautiful old home needed YOU! The white painted wall beneath the chair rail looks so much better, even though I did like it red too. ;-) Bo
LOVE IT!!!! I am tired! Are we resting yet? Do we need a new roof? Mary Ann
I love it! Looks much brighter.
What a diff...it looks great !!!
Kathy :)
What a difference! OMG! Your dining room is gorgeous; can't wait to see it with the original chandley! I love all the little touches you've added around the room, very home-y!
Enjoy the fruit of your labor, Rue. You've definately earned them.
{PS. I'll email you w/ a response from your comment on my blog. I also have a question for you.}
That made all the difference in the world. Very nice job.

I have a feeling it was a LOT more work than you make it sound. And I must say I like the white on bottom better...it really lightens up the room and makes the red look really crisp. The room is gorgeous...REALLY gorgeous!

Rue, what a fantastic job you did on the dining room! I love it this way much better! The white cabinet looks better without that paint all over the glass too! I can't believe you did all that in 1 day-you are amazing!!
Wow Rue, it looked great before but now it looks so much better sweetie, you did an awesome job! Poor Rich is like my husband, he never knows what he is going to come home to! lol My husband always tells me that after a long day at work it makes him happy on the drive home to wonder what interesting things I've been up to during the day, and that it's like a little surprise party each day to come home! Have a great day Rue!
Amanda (aka Cottage Contessa)
Love it!
Rue,
You did a great job.
Hugs
'D'
Lovely - So much better. You work fast.
You are a brave and industrious woman to do that all by yourself Rue! Good fro you! It came out beautiful --the white really opens up the room. I love the corner cabinet. The house we rent in Colorado has the same feature and I love it.
Hugs, Pat
I love it*! Thanks for sharing it with us.
The dining room looks great.. as well as the kitchen.
That squirrel dish is the sweetest!
I'm enjoying my visits to see what new things you come up with :)
Michelle
It's looks very nice. I'm glad you found and took care of the spot where water leaked. That can be bad stuff when not taken care of. Good job!

Ah Rue when I first started reading your post and saw that you were taking wall paper down, my heart sank all I could think is when you pulled the wall paper off, the plaster came with it. Now why...experienced that one with my own home. I am so glad it wasn't the case. Your room looks great.
Betty

This looks like a model home! way to tackle a huge project!
Oh, that makeover is absolutely fabulous! I love the contrast!
I daughter asked me to link up to Jen's party and she wasn't ready this morning for furniture redo.. Hopefully soon.
I continue to adore your dining room and would love just a portion of some of the energy you have...I had it once. :)
How close were you to Harper's Ferry, which is my current post? I know you were in VA somewhere.
Beth:)
I like it a lot better. Really breaks everything up and brings out the wood from your beautiful antiques. I'm sure Hubby loved it, especially if they don't have to get involved!! I have never understood how people can paint over wallpaper. To me it is because they are too lazy to take it off.
Have a great day and the house is looking great.
I love red! But that room was even a little too much for me. Your white on the bottom really balanced out the whole room. Beautiful now. Just beautiful.
The Texas Woman
This is phenomenal! Submit to magazine as a redo!
Brenda
Well, girl, I, too, am playing catch up. You are such a ball of energy-- and inspiration! Just a beautiful job, thanks so much for sharing! I love the way you put spoons in the glass, too. Great tip for me!
xxxooo
Rue,
First, the corner cabinet looks terrific. Why don't people finish projects?
Second, do you know how lucky you are that wallpaper came off that easily after 100 years or so. I can't believe you did it all it a day and it looks spectacular.
I'm loving your new house.
Gretchen
Wow Rue! You were BUSY! What a great job you did! I love, love, love all of your antiques. I would love to take a tour of your home to hear all the stories of where you found your goodies. Have you traveled a lot overseas being a military wife? We hit a lot of spots in Europe when we were in Germany. Wish our weight allowance was twice what it was at the time!!! ;)
Happy day wishes hun~ Les
Rue- Can't believe how much you've accomplished in such a short time! We're in our house over 3 years, and I feel like I'll never be finished. Our dining room is a very similar red, and seeing the white below the chair rail is giving me ideas...God's Blessings in your new home. Nancy
Hello Rue, I just stopped by again to take another look at your wonderful makeover. Joining the makeover party is a grand idea. Now so many more blogging friends can see your gorgeous makeover.

Looks great Rue! I do not understand painting over wallpaper... (do I need to duck and run here!) But glad you found where there was a leak and kilzedededsed it. Amazing how it looks like a different room.
It looks beautiful! Good job!!!

You are so talented. I love how it turned out.
Lynn
Your room is beautiful! I'm so impressed that you did all that in one day. You rock. :)
Rue, your new home is beautiful, you have such a talent for puting a room together, has been fun watching through your blog. Thanks for sharing with all of us.......Sharon K
Your room looks awesome. However, I am just curious if when you removed the wallpaper was there still water damage or had that problem been resolved. I can't tell by the picture but looks as though some of the wallpaper was retaining some moisture. Did you have any visible signs of mold? and if you did I hope you remediated it properly.
I have to tell you that stripping wallpaper is one of my secret pleasures. And I'm very good at it.
Love the idea of the frame around the plate! I may have to steal that idea.
Peace - Rene

Great job Rue!
I am so happy for you that your new little spot of heaven on earth is coming together for you and your love :)
You both so deserve it! :)
Beautiful! The chair rail has purpose now. I think my hubby would pass out too if I did something like that without discussing it beforehand.
Oh my gosh, I love your home! You did a great job with your dining room.
We are remodeling our old "new" home too. I was starting to lose steam but you've just motivated me to keep going!
