Our almost, but not quite finished bedroom

After having dark red bedrooms in the last two homes we lived in, I was tired of the darkness and wanted something much lighter. Our new bedroom was already painted a beautiful color (Latte by Sherwin Williams) that I didn't appreciate until we moved in. The previous owner's furniture did nothing for it as you can see here....and it wasn't until I had slept in there for a few weeks and noticed how the color changed with the different times of the day and even with the weather, that I started to appreciate it. On cloudy days it wraps around you like a cocoon and on sunny days it brightens up so much you feel cheerful and refreshed. Of course it helps to have our own things in there as well ;)

The headboard belongs to an antique double bed, but I've been wanting to use it for years, so I'm just letting it sit behind our queensize mattresses. Hopefully soon we'll be able to do something about making it large enough to use the footboard too.
Years ago my mom bought me an antique wedding quilt and I was always afraid to use it for fear it would disintegrate, but like everything else, what is the point of owning something beautiful if it just sits unused in a closet? So, now it's found a place to show off. I love the subtle design of the embroidery and even with a few tiny holes it's still a great beauty.....
On Rich's side of the bed I'm still looking for the perfect picture to hang. I know it's out there even though I have no idea what it looks like ;)

His view.....
and mine....
One last look at my vanity.....
and the corner of the room that remains unfinished....
because it was what I was working on before influenza took over the household. I'm sure I'll find a place for all of it soon ;)
So that's the end of the tour. The room isn't small, but it isn't large either and not to sound like Goldie locks... but to use her words... it's just right.... for us :)

hugs and love,
rue

Rue, I am so happy that you and your new home found each other. It truly is a match made in heaven and sooooo many happy memories are going to be made inside those old walls... Your bedroom is just gorgeous... I hope to make over our bedroom this year. It's not a big room at all - very narrow and only one window, so it's definitely time to ditch the 1980's accent wall of dark mauve wallpaper and the coordinating 80's border!! ... What a beautiful, bright room you have! ... Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

That quilt is GARgeous! Glad you are going to use it... but I know what you mean. There are so many things that I don't display, ect. for fear of the cats knocking it over or clawing it up.

The whole room is so pretty and classy. What a big difference from the previous owner's pic! Love your vanity, and the LaModes(?) fashion plates hung above it.

Lots of pretties on the dresser waiting for you to finish arranging them too~

Hi Rue, I just found your blog and I love your home. I always wanted an older colonial style. We live in a 1970's quad level home. Your bedroom is great. We painted ours a deep chocolate brown two years ago, and I still love it. It is so warm and cozy.
Also, I covet the birdhouse you made for Kim at Daisy Cottage! It is sooo cute!

I am back to see your beautiful room again to get some ideas... yours seem so romantic. I am redoing our room also...

Did you see I posted the Short Pump Mall last week and this week part of Monument Avenue? ( Wed. I will post more:) We live in Utah and it is such a gift for us to experience the beauty and history of the east.
We are going again in May for our son's graduation from dental school at VCU. Where are the places you would suggest should go, see and do this trip? We will have 12 days there this time. Williamsburg was a favorite. We have two granddaughters there who will be 7 and 10 years old.

Thanks,

It looks so beautiful Rue. I like that color as it looks so calm and elegant and it goes with almost everything. A red accessory or two will give you enough color.

GRRRR stupid blogger won't take my comment. I was saying....it's so different from the red bedroom from your last house...but both are equally beautiful. A queen sized bed is only 12" wider than a full...so it will overhand the full sized footboard only 6" on each side...perfectly acceptable. So fasten that antique footboard on there and let the bed and bedding 'poof' out on each side. See, I have this antique rolled steel bedstead that my son uses...we used it for over 20 yrs, he got it when we got a queen bed adn I want it back...so I did some measuring. But I found a pretty bedstead at goodwill for either double or full. It will be painted next week and on our bed the next. And if I don't like it. Middle son will get it and I'll get his bedstead. ;D
