Another peek at the pantry

Remember when I showed you this picture and told you that Rich was going to build me some shelves like them? Well lookie here......
He put them in after work one night.....
and built a cubby for the microwave.....
and then it was up to me to paint them.
I finally have a place for my most used cookbooks!
Don't the shelves look fantastic?!
I'm still working on the decorating part, but I'm just thrilled :)
Here's the other side of the room that I showed you the other day.....
and here they are together.....
He installed another schoolhouse light in there too!

You're wondering why I'm only showing the top half of the room, aren't you? Well, since the dogs need a bench to sleep on (because they think they're human and won't sleep on the floor of course! LOL) I showed Rich this picture......and he's going to build a wider version of it. It won't be decorated this fancy of course, but with some dog proof cushions to lay on, it'll be perfect for them :)

I also finished this little project recently......

We have a lot of people coming to our door to sell things and I needed a cute sign to tell them sweetly that we're not buying, so I bought a piece of decorative wood and spray painted it.
Then I painted this polite little message.....
and I even hung the ribbon on there with nails.....
from this other project that's in the works.....
Yep, we've got our hands in several things at once, because we seem to work better that way. Weird, huh?

Well, now I'm off to spend time with my handy hubby and darling daughter. I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend :)

hugs and love,
rue
**Edited to add that the microwave is vented through to the back. No worries everyone! :)

The pantry is lookin' good! Now I can't wait to see the cute doggy benches. Hope you are having a nice weekend. I'm off to the new & used record shop to pour over the recent additions to the weekly bin. ~ Robyn

The shelves look great, Rue...What a beautiful job!! I love all the wonderful touches you're adding...the chalk board is so clever!

A word of caution, though, about your microwave. If your microwave isn't vented through the front, enclosing it could short it out.(Ask me how I know this! :D) I had questioned the builder on this when he installed our microwave into a built in cabinet, finishing it off with molding...he assured me it would be just fine. He ended up buying TWO microwaves!

Lisa said...

Lynda took my idea on the microwave. We had that experience not too long ago at work. Ours wasn't vented and didn't last too long.

I love the shelves. Can't wait to see the new benches!! The sign is great. I think you could sell those with nifty little sayings!!!!

Rue said...

No worries! It's vented through to the back, but carefully hidden behind the cookbook ;)

All lookin good!
I too got the bug and painted a feature wall in my daughters room now just to do her chest of drawers...Ugh!
That I hate....Furniture and oil based paints!
It will be worth it though.
Anyhooo...You are powering along.
Why did'nt you paint the shelves before putting them up??...

Stacey said...

Looks great Rue! You've made me wonder if I might have room for some shelves like that in my laundry room. I love the bench for the dogs. Just today I was thinking that no one could ever understand the true nature of life with dogs on my blog. There's always one at your feet or snoring in the same room. :)

Hey Rue the shelves look great! You guys work faster than we do, I just finished the floor this morning and still have all the painting to do, as soon as I choose a color! Yes I have changed my mind more than once but that is my perogative right! ;). I need some of those toaster stroodles too, LOL!!

We need one...seriously. You should make them and sell them on Etsy.
I'll be your first customer.

Alex is outside staining the deck. Our garage door opener broke yesterday so now he has to install a new one tonight. Whew! Poor hubby...:)

Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

The sign was a good idea too.. very cute!
We don't have alot of door selling here, so it wouldn't be a problem....

Good luck with that floor.. looks like you have to soak it somehow to get it out without hurting the floor..

Happy easter!

You two have sure been busy lately! You are so fortunate to have a man that will fix things up for you like that! The shelves look great! So does everything else...your sign, the pantry doors (awesome idea!), and that gorgeous chair!

I recently saw two chairs at Goodwill. They had needlepoint seats and were only $5 each. Oh, I was so tempted! But I really have absolutely not place to put them. They would have been great painted! I still kind of regret not snatching them up.

Rue, I love it all!! Your hubby is one creative man-hang on to him for sure!! I love those shelves. I miss my wooden shelves in my pantry. The builder put those plastic coated wire ones in there. If we didn't have the house on the market I would have wood in there for sure. Keep up all the wonderful and great work!

Hi Rue
The shelves look just perfect! I can't believe the prior owners didn't think of doing that. I have a large cook book collection so I'd use all three shevles for them alone, but I'd love having them all in one place. The bench will be great to have too --I'd add a bottom and a hinged top for storage of dog food and leashes, etc. You are so lucky that Rich is handy, as well as being a hunk ;-)
Hugs, Pat

Rue, your home has such a warm and loving look and feel to it! You've done a great job of making your house a family home and the pantry is coming along VERY well! Love what you and hubby have done. I would like to make a 'wee' suggestion. I'd like to see benches with built-in storage with hinged/lift-up top for extra supplies and out-of-season items.

Your pantry is dreamy. It will be perfect once the bench is done too! I love your little "no soliciting" plaque. I've been thinking of doing one too, but I have yet to see how many solicitors we get in the spring/summer. I will keep your project in mind for inspiration!
