Thank you so much for coming! I know that there’s a lot to see if you’re participating in sweet Rhondi’s Porch Party, so I’m thrilled you’re here :)
Right off of our breakfast room is our screened-in porch. See that door? Follow me….. ![]()
I think this door was originally the front door, after looking at other homes in our neighborhood, but now it’s leads to the porch. Anyway, come on outside….
Watch your step and the screen door!
Before I show you around, let me show you what it looked like right after I cleaned it up…..
and here it is now!
I shopped around the house for everything and didn’t pay a cent to fix it up except for some spray paint. The only thing left to do is the floor and I haven’t decided on that yet, but I’m thinking of painting a fake rug on it or maybe getting an outdoor rug….hmm… can’t decide. What do you think?
I showed you how I painted the bench and refinished the table and chair set in *this post*. Under the bench is an old Army tool box that Rich used on his many trips over “there” and I’m going to use it for my small gardening tools now.
No we won’t be going on a picnic, but….
it’s ready anytime :)
It’s a little nippy out anyway, so let’s stay up here on the porch so we’re sheltered from the wind.
Above the door is a sweet sign that my blogging friend Jo made for a giveaway that I won….
and hanging on the side is a cross my mom gave me…
Let me show you the other side of the porch…
Anyone remember this chair? You can read *this post* to see how I painted it. The poor thing had been sitting around with nowhere to go, until I finally recovered it for the porch with part of a picnic blanket. It’s 3 other friends are waiting in the basement until I can use them on our future front porch ;)![]()
Here’s the old icebox that used to be in our breakfast room at our last house ….
and on top of it are the daisies Annie gave me for Mother’s Day, some pots I bought last year, from Classics and Country and the watering can was just left here by the previous owner. Finders Keepers ;)
Here’s the inside of the icebox that I’m going to be using as a little potting station….
I love the doors on it :)
An old birdcage….
that still has one feeder left.
Oops! I forgot to set the table! Go ahead and have a look around while I get it ready, okay?
The old window? Well, this house is 105 years old and when you own an old house it’ll have it’s quirks. The window faces the inside now, so they boarded it up. I painted the inside with chalkboard paint….
and hung those cafe curtains to hide the speakers….
All the little doodads are things Annie has picked up on vacations, like rocks and shells and the flags are from some of the parades that we’ve been in because of Rich being in the army.
That’s my train clock that makes train noises every hour (I can’t imagine what the neighbors must think every time it goes off. It’s loud! LOL) and Rich’s eagle we found in an antique store….
I love the reflection of the chandelier in the mirror….
See… that didn’t take too long ;)
I set the table for brunch…
For the centerpiece I just used some jars I had sitting around and put my roses in them.
The silver was my great-grandmother’s every day silverware…
I hardly ever use it, but I thought it would like to come out and show off a little. I love the simple design on it…
I found out that it was made in 1944….
My mom loves china and I’ve been lucky enough to be the recipient of certain sets after she grows tired of them or they no longer fit her style anymore, which was the case with this set….
I don’t know too much about them except what is on the bottom of it and that my mom bought it sometime in the 70s or 80s from a store called Howard Kaplan’s French Country Store and they’re made by Philippe Deshoulieres. I had a full set for 12, but it’s very delicate and there’s been a few mishaps… oops!, so I stopped using it for everyday dishes. I’ve looked online to no avail, so if anyone knows where I can get more, I’d appreciate it :)
One last look….
and then what it looks like when simplified for dinner with our family. We eat out here every night now. I love how you can see the bead board ceiling in the mirrored top of the table :)
Before you go, I want to show you what it looks like out here at night…
You can see the glow of the votive I put in the chandelier….
Especially if you look inside the globe….
Goodnight sweet porch, see you in the morning for coffee …
I hope you enjoyed the tour of our little porch. She may be small, but we love her very very much:)
Be sure to stop by Rhondi’s Porch Party to see how everyone else has decorated this year and don’t forget to say Happy Birthday since it’s her birthday this week ;)
Hugs and love,
rue
PS Thank you so much for helping me yesterday. It’s nice to know I’m not alone! I haven’t done anything different, but it seems to be better right now…. we shall see….
**Edited to add a big thank you to Beverly and Di for letting me know where to find the dishes (Replacements.com) and I also found this info:

A lovely tour... thanks Rue :)
Rue, you've made your porch into just the perfect spot. I love that you always share the stories behind your treasures.
The chandelier looks just perfect, and how wonderful that it reflects in the mirror. Great beadboard ceiling! We had a tongue and groove ceiling on our porch in South Florida, and I wish we had thought to put one on our porch here.
Your roses look so pretty. I am sitting at my desk gazing out at our rose garden now.
I suggest you send a picture of the front and back of your china to replacements.com. I've never known them to fail in identifying a pattern.
Thank you for inviting me to your party. My porch party is tomorrow, and I certainly hope you will have time to stop by for a visit.
It's lookin' good, Rue! I adore your candelier. Your Mom's china sure is a cute pattern. Just right for a Porch Picnic. Well, I'm off to plant. ~ Robyn

So when am I comin' f/coffee? LOL It all looks so warm, cozy, and inviting. Kinda like you, my friend! xoxo Sue
Hi Rue,
I love your porch. It's a dream of mine to someday have a screened porch so I don't have to put up with bugs when I serve a meal. You have so many beautiful things going on out there but I have to say my favorite is the old ice box that you are using for a potting station. Brilliant! And it looks so cute out there too! I loved seeing all the little trinkets that Annie collected and how you displayed them. So sweet! Your table is set so pretty! So fresh and summery looking. I would certainly enjoy a meal out there! Have a great night my friend. Hugs, Loretta
Hi Rue,
I love everything about your beautiful porch and it looks like it has a big welcome sign there.
I love your French china and silver cutlery and that ice box is great.
Well I like everything about it ~ did you have a lovely brunch? I am sure you did.
Have a great Sunday

Cathy
What a fun tour of your back porch. I love it all as it is so inviting. I love the blue and white dishes that were your Mom;s. So pretty.
Joyce
Love the porch Rue - it has character just like your home does. We had one on our old house (23 years ago) and I tried an outdoor sisal rug but it was a pain when it get wet and full of pollen and food crumbs seemed to attract ants so it went by by and I painted the floor to look like a striped rug. Just used paint recommended for concrete back then. It wore a bit here and there but was easy to sweep off and even hose down!
Enjoy your meal on your porch - I think they are a real bonus!!
hugs, Linda
I have missed you! May sort of got away from me. Your Porch is gorgeous! I loved the bench, Ice Box, Annie's daisies ( she is a sweetheart!) each of the momentos from your mom...just everything. Your home truly has become yours! I am sorry the weather has been nippy... we enjoyed absolutely perfect weather in Virginia. I thought about you while there. Here in Utah the weather is overcast a bit but warm.
I am glad I happened onto the porch party, when I really just came to visit you! I enjoyed the visit very much!
Beth~♥
I just love your porch every time I see it! What a fabulous centerpiece you did! I love the china :) Great photos!
All the best,
Allison
Hi Rue... most patterns can be found on Replacements.com. I found a few of your pattern there... here's the link. They are generally quite expensive and it's a hit or miss as far as what pieces are available.. but here you go!

Hi there Ms. Rue! I love your porch - all of it! I vote for an outdoor rug .... they are wonderful to walk on, dirt and dust isn't as noticeable and when you find the right one, it will add even more ZING!r
Rue,
Your porch is so charming! What a great place to sit and enjoy meals.

Hi Rue, I have so enjoyed the party on your porch. It is a wonderful spot and is so inviting. The bench with the picnic basket is wonderful going to the porch. The chandilier is beautiful and I love your china with the blue and white trailing gingham ribbon. All the wall decor is perfectly special and adds so much charm. I love the night time look too, so cozy. What an amazing porch designed by you, such a talented sweet lady!!
Thank you for the special time.
See you again soon.
Please stop by my party too when you have a moment.

Wow Rue,
Your porch looks wonderful. You pay so close attention to all the lovely details. I love seeing the before and after and all of of the accents that you have added.
Happy Porch Party.
Karen
I love how you have put this porch together in such a quick time since your move! I love it here!
I've always loved your icebox and I'm glad it found a great new home. This really isn't a porch but just an extension of your living space from inside! I love it!
P.S. Brandon did take his oath on Friday. Time will tell what will happen now.
Rue I forgot to tell you, the door leading onto your screened porch is exactly the same as MY front door! The wood moulding around it is the same as mine too. Interesting I thought! :-))
Hi Rue,
You have a great looking porch! I love all the little details!
Your porch is beautiful and very inviting! I am so envious I want a screen porch so bad! I'm sure you spend lots of time enjoying it. Thanks so much for sharing your post was very well done! Hugs!

Your porch is absolutely darling! Love that you have an old icebox in there! How cute! :)
Rue, I love it! You did a fabulous job on everything! And ther dishes! My pulse is racing! They are adorable! Keep an eye out on eBay for them as sometimes I have had luck replacing pieces there.
I'm so happy for you I could just pop, Rue!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Your porch reflects your personality: it is warm and charming, inviting... now I can only be inspired to gussy up ours, as I've always wanted a porch and our new house has one... albeit the corner of it is stacked with new bathroom fixtures for our upcoming renos... not especially charming to see an empty tub over there :(
Hi, Ruzzer..I adore your little screened porch. I happen to think it is just the right size.
You using the fabulous old ice box for a potting station is PERFECT..
I love your vintage or vintage looking lamp above your pretty table. I have an old, beautiful lamp a little like this but, have no where I want to hang it. Alas..it is on a shelf in a closet.. It is a robin's egg blue and matches not a thing in my cottage.
Thanks for letting us take a peek at your cute porch..
Rue! It's just delightful-almost as much as You! What a wonderful porch! I need that bench. I have one I am going to paint like yours! Thanks for the inspiration!
Rue, It is absolutely gorgeous! I'm so happy for you! xorachel
Hello dear Rue, we have been on vacation for more than two weeks and I have missed so much about what is happening in Your P B & J life. We have been on the road all day and arrived in Montana from Colorado this am at Yellowstone Nat'l Park. We are so excited about being here. Hooray, we have internet.
I remember when you cleaned up your porch and it looked great. Now, with all of your additions it looks fabulous. Rue's decorating stamp is a wonderful look in every corner. I love the dishes and the silverware and I know they are a treasure. It is great that you have info on both. I do love the old ice box and your new use for gardening. I remember the chair and it is a perfect porch chair. The light fixture is so pretty.
I can imagine many lovely meals there with your family.
Time for me to say goodnight so I can be rested to explore Yellowstone tomorrow. This park is huge and we will be here for five days. I will be posting photos when I can.
Love and hugs...Jeanne
Child! I can't see it, and I've got my reading glasses on. I'm loving your roses on the table.
Hugs,
G
rue-
Your porch is so sweet:)You did a fab job! i am now inspired. Enjoy your time on the porch.
Blessings,
aimee
p.s. What breed is the little dog (on your other post)? We have 4 dogs, but two just like them! I did a double take!
Also wanted to say congrats on your awesome win!
blessings,
Beautiful and relaxing friend!
I love your porch, Rue, and I really enjoyed browsing through your wonderful blog!
Stunning redo Rue, and you've got some awesome finds like the vintage ice box. My great grandmother had one just like it that was used daily!
I just love your porch Rue. It is so colorful and I should congradulate you on an awesome redo. I think that bench is so cute and it looks so green out back. It is just wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
THANKS for the tour.
The best places are those full of love, special family treasures and lots of stories... thanks for sharing some of yours today.
Happy Porch Party...
It's perfect!! I'm so jealous of the beadboard ceiling. Our front and back porch have been painted about 25 times and are in horrible shape to strip and redo. The lamp over the table looks like it was always meant to be there.
Hi Rue :) Your porch is sooo beaautiful!! I love that chandelier. Each and every detail is just perfect! I love the beautiful table setting. I am just so excited for you to finally have the home of your dreams!! You deserve it :)
Love and hugs,
Amy
Hi Rue
I'm back again. I was in a bit of a dither last night when I couldn't get the link working so I didn't really have a good look around. So now thateverything is all organized I thought I'd just stay for awhile and visit with all the others who stop by your beautiful porch. I want to hear all the oohs and aahs!
Rhondi xo
Rue, I will take the bench and the chair with the H on it. What a lovely porch with so many pretty things on it...your dishes with the blue ribbon are wonderful.
Thanks for having me over, come sit with me.
Happy Porch Party!
You are a lucky girl to have such a wonderful porch. Everything looks so inviting. I could spend the whole day there just relaxing. Your dishes are so beautiful and your table is lovely. Mimi
Thank you for sharing your lovely porch. I can see why you love it and you set such a pretty table too!
Carolyn
Fabulous!!!! Every inch of it! (is that a Barbola mirror?) Love Replacements...they always have the "memories" in stock!
m ^..^
Rue, Thank you for your sweet comments...had to drop back by and say...the floor on our porch was so so so easy to do...I didn't measure a thing. You might not want to do it like I did, but when the time comes I can tell you how if you decide you want squares like I have. Hugs to you Rue! rachel
What a great tour! Everything is so CLEAN and pretty!
Lots of wonders and beautiful treasures. Thanks for a great visit.
Enjoyed!
Candy
WOW!!!!!! I LOVE your porch!! Gorgeous and so thoughtfully pulled together. LOVE your dishes and your birdcage! Thank you, Rue, for sharing. You have been one busy gal!
xoxo

PS: I think of you often and pray things are going good for you.
Good Morning Rue,
I love your porch, like your whole home. You have made everything wonderful in such a short time. I can picture your family out there enjoying a quiet evening. Give your Alex a hug, I am sure you are happy he is home.
Hugs,
Donna
Rue, your porch looks AMAZING! I would definitely come to sit a spell oh yes I would...love the table all set, but especially love how it looks set for the three of you! Thanks for sharing, and oh I get that pop up a lot too on some of the blogs I visit...bums me out.
Oooooh I love love love love LOVE it!! You have so much going on here. That bench is terrific! I am inspired! What a wonderful party...thanks!!
Rue everything looks so pretty. You have such talent. I would so love to have a screened in porch. Your door is like my front door on my house, it isn't the original front door to my house as I have a photo with another but there are a lot of them in the area like it.
So you researched when your house was built, it is so awesome to have your house's history.
Have a great day.
Betty
You might check eBay for your dishes, worth a shot any ways, as Replacements can be more pricey.
Rue, it's so cozy and charming!! I bet we could all sit out there and talk and laugh for hours. Maybe someday.....!
xo, Andrea
Rue, your back porch is filled with wonderful atmosphere. Love it! You know I'm going to sneak up there one night and steal your table and chairs!
The ice box looks great out there, and I like what you did with the chandy; I've done that before with old light fixtures.
The chalk board paint and curtain over the window are genious.
I have much catching up to do since the shower is over, but I have been reading! I like your front steps without the railing!
HUGS!
I forgot to say... I like that old birdcage. Reminds me of the episode of Silvester and Tweety and the flying birdcage, lol!
Rue, I adore your porch and all your old ironwork. I see so many things that I have or had the same thing! Great idea for the old fridge - we finally sold our 3 door one. I especially love your glass back door. Everything is just beautiful. This is a favorite on this tour! :)Nancy
Oh Rue..........everything you do is just so dear. I love your porch. Whew......I sure wish I had a sweet little porch too. No nooks, crannies or screened porches in newer homes. I love the charm of an older home....
Hugs,
Spencer
It's all very lovely and a perfect spot for a wonderful meal.
The ice box is great.
Have a wonderful week.
Lovely, lovely! I like your idea of painting the fake rug :)
i just adore your porch, and that ice box is fantastic!! thanks for sharing your lovely home with us!
Rue, I think your blog shows your heart to create a warm home for those you love and that is what brings me here over and over :)!
Hi Rue, Very funny comment you left me LOL! My porch says it would never do such a thing!
I love all the little details you've added to your porch. You know how to make a place so special for your family. I can just see you all sitting around your table enjoying your meals and each other!
The outdoor rugs are fairly inexpensive. I bought mine at Target at the end of the year so if you can wait you can get a deal and they come in such wonderful patterns and colors these days.
Manuela
Rue I can definitely understand why you would eat out there often. It's inviting and pretty out on the porch. I love the flowers in the old jars. Love your hand painted bench too. You are doing such an amazing job with your new house!! Love it!
Hi Rue,
We've lost cantact...sorry about that. This post is breathtaking...every little corner of it. The adorable bench, the fresh cut flowers, the ice box, the china, the birdcage, ..... and all in a screened in porch. You're a lucky girl! Just beautiful. : )
Rue, I soooooo love your porch! Just lovely! Thank you for sharing your porch with us. And thanks for visiting my porch. Come back any time! Have a blessed week.
Rebecca
Wow, what a beautiful space! I don't even know where to begin, I love it all so much. I've always wanted an old icebox, and it's so cool that you have one on your porch.
RUE!! Wow! I'm almost speechless! Your porch looks absolutely amazing. I want to come sit and have some lunch at that table. It really looks great. So cozy. I love how you made it feel like an inside space even though it is outdoors. Amazing. Great job. Have you stopped smiling since you finished it?!
~Michelle
Your porch is gorgeous! I'm glad my little sign has such a lovely home (I hope the arrow points in the right direction!).
I love the cheerful reds, blues, and greens on your porch. The old Icebox caught my eye right away...What a unique piece of furniture!
What amazes me the most is the transformation of a house to now your home. Every detail that you add is so perfect. You've truly created a wonderfully welcoming !
The back porch was so fun, especially since I'm porched deprived. The old fashioned ice box was the piece de resistance. How clever to make it into your lil' potting shed.
I would love to come "sit a spell" on your porch.
Sweet wishes,
Sara

Oh my, we had an icebox exactly like that one when I was a very little girl. Thanks for sharing.
You could've joined in Blue Monday too!
This is such a delightful spot! Each item in this porch is perfect and gives it such a charming and welcome look! Your candlelier turned out sooo pretty. I love the idea of the mirrored top on the table (and wow! it's so clean!) That china is so pretty. Glad to see someone told you about Replacements.com. Oops! Almost forgot to say that the ice box for a potting station is such a great idea! You are just such a creative person, and I love coming to see what you've done in your special home! laurie
Ahhh Rue, I so love your porch! It is SO YOU! Charming, beautiful, and friendly! Your roses are gorgeous! I love every nook and cranny! And your table setting - well it is just perfect. Sigh. Soooo nice!!!
xo,
Kim
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello, Rue.
You really have made tremendous progress with your new home in such a short amount of time. Everything is coming together so nicely. I especially love that you can serve your family meals here on your sweet porch. If we ate outside on our porch, it would freak me out to have all the neighbors driving and walking by while we tried to enjoy our meal! LoL.
Your porch is charming at day and very romantic at night..... lovely...

I do have the recipe for the Cheese Tart. I'll take to post it soon and will give you a heads up.

I am happy to see your porch and a glimpse of your new yard. You've got a beautiful place to dine, Rue, my dear. And I remember when you got that table with the mirrored top. Also loving that innovative potting station.
Brenda
Everything is so warm and inviting on your porch, Rue. It would be my favorite place to sit and have dinnertoo! It makes me wish I had a porch.
I'm glad you are able to visit my blog again! :-)
Hi Rue!
My first time here, and thanks for visiting my blog..
What a great porch! Love what you have done with it..the blackboard paint window is adorable.
I went to college in Ohio..but I haven't been back since. Many years ago!
Great post, and so nice to meet you!
Rue, your porch is WONDERFUL!!! How I wish mine was screened like yours--I hate fighting the flying critters at night!
If you recall, I love repurposed vintage items, too....so I went crazy over all of the terrific decor you have used on your porch. OMG--that old refrigerator is just PERFECT for a potting area and I love the birdcage and light fixture--AND the window turned into a chalk board! Your table and chairs are so beautiful! How great that you have your gr. grandmom's silver and a set of your mom's lovely dishes. So glad you were given more info about them from Beverly and Di!
I really enjoyed seeing your porch, Rue! Thanks for reminding me that we actually "met" a year ago at the first Porch Party!!!
L, Dana
Beautiful porch! Of course nothing less could be expected from you. Love the dishes. The whole area is very inviting....Chistine
Love the porch and the nice old house. I have looked through part of it and will keep touring the rest after I take the kids to the pool.

So inviting!!!
Your porch is lovely. I so dream of having an old home someday. I love your icebox - and it will be a perfect potting area. The chandelier is charming - Ohhhh too many things to mention. Absolutely beautiful! Hugs, Patti
What a perfect porch! I love everything about it! Every little thing!
So beautiful! I could sit there for hours!
Not a cent other than spray paint? Brilliant! Your porch looks like a fabulously staged vintage store. And I loovvveee that chandelier.
Rue,
Your porch is just adorable and I love all the things you've put on it. The table is perfect and I love your china and silver settings.
Hugs,
Gretchen
I love that old ice box! Your table setting is great too. What a fabulous place to enjoy a meal.
A good story
GK Chesterton: “The poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.”
Voila: www.tastingtoeternity.com. This book is a poetic view of 30 of the best loved French cheeses with an additional two odes to cheese. Recipes, wine pairing, three short stories and an educational section complete the book.
From a hectic life in New York City to the peace and glories of the French countryside lead me to be the co-founder of www.fromages.com. Ten years later with the words of Pierre Androuet hammering on my brain:
“Cheese is the soul of the soil. It is the purest and most romantic link between humans and the earth.”
I took pen and paper; many reams later with the midnight oil burning Tasting to Eternity was born and self published.
I believe cheese and wine lovers should be told about this publication.
Enjoy.
