Been busy!

I'm sorry I haven't posted in so long, but there's a lot going on here at PB&J Cottage!

Before I get into that, I want to say thank you so much for all your sweet birthday wishes for Annie. It was an emotional day for me and Rich, since she's getting so grownup, but we had a wonderful dinner out that night as a family :)

So what has been going on here?? Well, the clean up after the floors being redone as well as putting everything back is taking longer than expected and we've started yet another project that has to be done before Christmas......

Yep! The fireplace. We took a good look at it one night, because our curiosity has been getting the best of us to see what was under all the paint. It turns out that the brick above the mantel really wasn't brick at all, but some sort of weird wallpaper. Underneath is a little bit of mold, so it's a good thing we're pulling it off!

Then I started chipping at the paint that was falling off the mantel.....
and we found really smooth brick and intricately carved brick, so we're taking it all off.
Oh and that's not all! We knew that the tile in the middle wasn't original and with great trepidation we decided to take one off....
Sure enough, it didn't belong!
Here's what it looked like a few days ago and we're still working at it.
As soon as we're finished I'll be sure and show you what all our hard work looks like.

In fact I'll be posting pictures of all our progress very soon, but I'm taking a small blogging break until next week. I'll let you know more about the break when I come back ;)

Before I end this post though, I just want to say how sorry I am for all those affected by the tragedy at Fort Hood yesterday. God Bless the soldiers, their families stationed there and all the victims of this horrific event.

Be back soon......

hugs and love,
rue

Can't wait to see the fireplace reveal! I love everything y'll have done with this great house! In regards to the tragedy at Ft. Hood, you might be interested to read a well written post on WHY it happened at www.pappysbalderdash.blogspot.com Nov. 6th post. I think he hit it right on!

There are all kinds of fascinating things about that old house! Can't wait to see more. Yes, it is quite sad for our state, what happened at Fort Hood. I feel so badly for the families who lost loved ones.

Hi, Rue... it's exciting what you've been doing with the fireplace. Can't wait to see the progress.

And I feel terrible about Ft. Hood. I'm concerned for our military everywhere (my cousin is in the ME right now), and I pray that the Lord protects them and their families.

Miss you, but understand about breaks and obligations.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Just wanted to stop by this morning and say thank your for posting my candy giveaway on your darling site.
Also thanks for mentioning Fort Hood I live about an hour away and I still hurt thinking of all the lives touched and ruined by a pscho. I had to go to your blog to make sure your handsome husband was not stationed there. So glad your family was not near here.
The fireplace has to be agrivating but think of the final results and how beautiful it will be.
Enjoy this day

oh you just gave me a chill reading again about Fort Hood. How horrible.

That fireplace will look awesome "natural". Can you use a heat gun to get it to lift off?

I would never paint my brick fireplace, I love it's warmth.

Good morning, Rue. I've had internet issues, here at the lake, this week, so my visiting has been catch as catch can. I missed Annie's B'day! A belated Happy Birthday Annie!

The fireplace will be gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing the progress!

My heart is always with our military and their families, especially now, with what happened at Ft Hood!

I can so relate to busy.....we're digging in - scraping off - painting on different spaces at the Cactus Rd. House to prepare our smooth (hopefully) move there. Excitement and joy and discovery sure keeps us motivated.

For the past four days I've been on my knees - literally with a razor blade and gallon of glue remover scraping the family room floor. I hate glue down carpet!

Have a wonderful wonderful weekend! xoxo lylah

Rue, I do not know how you keep up with all the projects you always have going. All I can say is I am so very envious, I wish I could jump into my 1920 home and just do a redo. But I NeveR have the energy. I go to work and then some days just have to come home and sleep. I know it's this darn disease, but I so enjoy watching your house transform. I would just be happy with a new Kitchen. Love, Cyndi

Willow said...

I can't wait to see what else you find when taking the rest of the paint off and what it will look like when you redo it.

I wonder what's behind the fake chimney ?, it looks like dry wall over something else. How exciting though to see things as they were and have a wonderful surprise under it all.

Hi Rue...gee I didn't know my husband once lived in your house?...He must have because I don't think there is another person crazy enough to put up faux brick as a wall treatment and in white no less....In my old house in his den he had white brick paneling...Yikes it was horrible and now in this house he did the same thing only wanted to be more realistic so in my sewing room which used to be his den he put up red brick paneling on one wall....he won't even let me paint over it....He thinks it makes a "statement"....and that future buyers might think it's really cool.....Okay.
