Portugal: thousands demonstrate against austerity

About 20 thousand people in Lisbon and five thousand in port shouted slogans against the troika of lenders comprised by the European Central Bank, European Union and International Monetary Fund.

The demonstrations were organized by the civic movement "fuck the Troika".

Getting annoyed protesters against the cuts in pensions and civil service salaries that oscillate between 2.5 and 12%.

Despite the dispute, the Government asserts itself determined to achieve the goal of deficit of 4% of GDP in 2014 following the agreement reached with the Troika in 2011 in Exchange for the rescue of 78 billion euros.

The new budget foresees savings and additional revenues of around 3.9 billion euros.
