Distribution of international assistance begins to organize itself in the Philippines

A week after the powerful Typhoon that ravaged the Philippine Centre, international assistance begins finally to organize themselves.

The arrival of an American aircraft carrier with dozens of helicopters should facilitate access to areas that are still inaccessible and the distribution of supplies and medical assistance that have accumulated at the airport in Tacloban City, Leyte province's capital â€" the most affected.

Sebastian Stampa, who leads a team of UN intervention, says that "you should focus attention only in Tacloban. You need access to other parts of Leyte and Samar as soon as possible ".

A British helicopter port and an important Japanese military contingent should join soon the efforts of distribution of assistance to more than 500,000 thousand affected.

The survivors are increasingly impatient and desperate. A resident of Tacloban says he has no "food, water, electricity or fuel. So far, not any air assistance ".

President Benigno Aquino is being strongly criticized also the respect of balance of the tragedy. The official number of deaths is still of 2357, although the United Nations aim to 4460 victims.

The Mayor of Tacloban estimated 4,000 deaths only in the city, while the Red Cross says more than 20 thousand missing.
