Pope Francisco wants to "create desire for peace" to the Middle East

A gesture that, according to the Holy See, it has forethought of political cararater, intends to only "re-creating a desire, a chance" to relaunch the peace process, currently stalled, the Middle East.

The Vatican played down any expectation that the meeting Sunday night between Shimon Peres and Mahmoud Abbas â€" announced as a "break from politics" â€" take any immediate advance of the region's problems and says he is not interfering in regional affairs.

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, does not participate in the meeting and refusal to talk to the Government of national unity, supported by the Islamic group Hamas, which Abbas appointed last week.

Peres must leave office next month.
