Germany and Russia will "do everything to prevent an escalation of violence" in Ukraine

"I just got off the phone with Russian President Putin, and we agreed that we will do everything to prevent an escalation of further violence" in Ukraine. The assurance was given by Angela Merkel at the end of a franco-German summit in Paris, which was attended by the President of the European Commission.

The German Government has landed this Wednesday in Paris for a bilateral Summit to deal with issues of energy and security, but that turned out to be dominated by the revolution in Ukraine.

The French President and the German Chancellor condemned the violence, threatened with sanctions, appealed for calm and dialogue, but didn't take any concrete action.

Paris and Berlin reinforce the critical tone in relation to the Kiev regime but refer any reprisals for the sphere of 28. This Thursday for an emergency meeting of Foreign Ministers where he expects the European Union to pass from words to deeds.
