Ukraine: ongoing military operation in the city of Kharkiv

Kiev sparked a military operation "against terrorism" in Kharkiv. That's how the Minister of the Interior announced the operation on its Facebook page this morning. 70 people have already been detained.

Kharkiv is one of the three cities of Eastern Ukraine where demonstrators pro-Kremlin occupy administrative buildings demanding a plebiscite for annexation to Russia

Washington accuses Moscow of "orchestrating" the pro-Russian demonstrations that led to the capture of several official buildings in the towns of Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk. In the latter city, the separatists pró-russos decreed a "sovereign Republic".

The Ukrainian Government denounces, for its part, Russia's plan to "invade" their territory.

The United States is threatening new sanctions against Russia but, at the same time, the u.s. State Department said that the heads of diplomacy of the two countries discussed the possibility of a "direct dialogue" in the space of 10 days between Washington, Moscow, Kiev and Brussels to try to resolve the crisis.
