Cameroon: Missionaries kidnapped in Cameroon to Yaoundé

Safe and sound, the Italian priests and nun kidnapped Canadian North of Cameroon to April 4, arrived at the airport in the capital Yaounde escorted by special forces.

Giampaolo Marta, Gianantonio Allegri and Gilberte Bissiere were waiting for the ambassadors of their respective countries and an Envoy of Pope Francisco.

The missionaries were abducted by armed men in Maroua in the North, along the border.

The strangers arrived from bike and then led the local parish church in a cross-country vehicle.

The kidnapping was not claimed but the Cameroonian Government suspected had been the Islamists of Boko Haram, a very active armed group in the region, in particular in neighbouring Nigeria.
