EU and Arab League discuss Islamist offensive in Iraq without concrete proposals

After the so-called Arab revolutions diplomatic officials of the two organizations, are now worried about the advance of Islamist groups in Iraq and Syria, as well as the recruitment of several Europeans to participate on the alleged "holy war" (Jihad).

For the Greek Foreign Minister, Evangelos Venizelos, "the Arab world is facing tough times and Europe has the obligation to participate in the reconstruction of the Arab countries, ensuring a climate of security, stability and peace, as well as the prosperity of its citizens."

Arab and European representatives appealed to Iraq and the autonomous Government of Kurdistan to join efforts to combat the advance of the Islamic State of Iraq group and the Levant.

The diplomatic representative of Morocco, Salaheddine Mezouar, warned, "the economic situation is critical but we must not forget other issues relating to tolerance and the fight against extremism".
