U.N. launches relief operation in Iraq

The UN High Commissioner for refugees announced that, in a coordinated operation, will provide assistance by air and by land and sea through Iran, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan,

The attacks and subsequent advances of the Islamic State in Iraq led to a huge exodus of people who join the other refugees.

The European Union also has stepped up aid to victims of the jihadists.

Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner, announced during a visit to Baghdad, that Brussels will "reinforce the aid in five million euros, bringing to 17 million the total amount of aid for Iraqi refugees".

The World Food Program announced that in the last two weeks have provided more than one million meals.

According to the United Nations, the Iraq has on its territory a million six hundred thousand people in precarious conditions, between refugees and IDPs.
