Spanish Government convenes emergency meeting to block Catalan referendum

A decision that still need to be promulgated by the Catalan leader Artur Mas, when Madrid prepares to about denying the decision by the Constitutional Court.

"The Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has to act like David Cameron and allow the popular consultation," said Carme Forcadell, leader of the campaign for independence.

For the leader of the partido popular of Catalonia Alicia Sanchez Camacho, "this is a sad day for democracy and for the Spaniards. A law is clearly unconstitutional was adopted to allow a referendum to ask the Catalan people if they want to secede from the rest of Spain ".

The Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy denouncing the non-binding referendum as unconstitutional, has called an extraordinary meeting of the Government this weekend, waiting for the officialization of the new law by the Catalan leader.
