Ukraine: President wants the EU bid in 2020 when "the worst is over"

The announcement, five months after the start of the conflict in the East of the country and at a time when, "the worst is over," according to Petro Poroshenko, risks reigniting tensions with Moscow.

On the streets of Kiev, Poroshenko ambitions divide the inhabitants:

"I don't think we can submit an application to the European Union in such a short space of time. You can't change the mentality and lifestyle of one day to the next, but want is power, "says a Ukrainian.

Another has no doubts, "the Russia will try to block the process. The only thing we want is to stop the war, to live in peace and recover the economy ".

Poroshenko objectives threaten to disrupt negotiations on the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine, which will be resumed on Friday in Berlin.
