USA and EU resume transatlantic partnership negotiations

American and European representatives began the seventh round of negotiations Monday on the Transatlantic trade and investment Partnership.

The town of Chevy Chase, on the outskirts of Washington, was the place chosen to try to seal the free trade agreement between the United States and the European Union in future increasingly uncertain.

João Vale de Almeida, Ambassador of twenty-eight in United States, argues that "with this agreement, it will be possible to establish the highest standards of environmental, consumer and health in the world. We will be in a better position to implement, protect and promote our values and principles. The last few weeks and months have shown the enormous challenges that exist for the safety of our people and the values on which our societies are based. This partnership is a way to address these concerns. "

But both sides have acknowledged implicitly that will only be possible to obtain a stub end in 2016 and not until the end of this year, as originally planned. One of the main points of divergence is the mechanism for settling disputes between investors and States.
