Italy: Coast Guard rescues 850 migrants stranded aboard a freighter

The immigrants, who will be paid about $ 7000 each, asked for aid after they lost control of the 70-foot ship, which had departed from Turkey.

The Italian authorities have qualified the conduct of the crew as "criminal", the risk of collision or other accident.

The Italian coast guard has also announced that in the last week had already helped other 194 Syrian immigrants, among them 38 children, aboard a commercial ship that also had departed from Turkey.

This year more than 160 thousand people tried to enter Italy illegally from Syria and Eritrea.
