Sweden: demonstrations against Islamophobia after attacks on mosques

The incidents came against the backdrop of political tensions caused by the rise of extreme right-wing party Democrats of Sweden, who became in September the third political force in the country.

At the demonstration in Stockholm, the Minister of culture and democracy explained that the Government "invited Muslim civil society representatives to try and organise a strategy, which unfortunately does not exist in the country, to inform the population about what is Islam.

In the mosque of Uppsala, endorsed on Thursday by a "molotov cocktail", hundreds of residents stuck messages of love and solidarity with the Muslim community of the city.

On Christmas day, a fire apparently criminal origin made five injured in another mosque in Eskilstuna, in the Centre of the country. Four days later, the mosque of Eslöv, in southern Sweden, was also targeted by an arson.
