General strike and protests in southern Tunisia

Most of the Commerce and offices of the regions of Tataouine and Medenine closed in response to the police action Sunday against demonstrators who demanded the invalidation of a customs fee imposed in October.

The clashes erupted when police confiscated contraband fuel, been causing a mortal victim in Dehiba, second largest crossing point on the border with Libya.

In the town of Ben Guerdane, protesters left the streets Tuesday to demand job creation measures, decreased customs control on goods, abolition of customs fee and an inquiry into the police charge on Sunday.
