United Kingdom: Authorities looking for three girls who have travelled to Syria

Shamima Begum, of 15 years, Kadiza Sultana, of 17 years, and a third girl of 15 years, left their homes in London on Tuesday and boarded a flight bound for Istanbul.

Police believe the three friends, who attend a school in East London, have followed the example of one of his friends, who fled last December to join the Group Islamic State.

"We don't know how this happened. We don't know if it was a contact through social networks or if it was a personal contact. The way the Group Islamic State treats women and girls is terrifying. These girls are not safe in Syria. If you're still in Istanbul, we will have a chance to bring them back safely and protect them, "said the head of the counter-terrorism unit of the metropolitan police.

British authorities believe that the young people have received support to plan the trip.

A document published in late January meant that 550 Western women have travelled to Iraq and Syria in order to integrate the ranks "jihadists".
