Portugal: press freedom threatened

The Minister of Justice, Paula Teixeira da Cruz, said that freedom of the press is a right "untouchable". The President of the regulatory authority for the media, Charlemagne, threatened to abandon the post, if the Decree comes into force.

António Costa, leader of the Socialist Party, stressed that it is "a mere working paper" and "disagree" solution it constant.

The PSD Deputy Carlos Abreu Amorim denied "any idea of limiting journalistic freedom" and the Christian Democrat leader, Paulo Portas, stressed "appreciate very much the freedom of the press".

The CFP and BE declared to be against the eventual diploma.
