Russia claims to have killed the leader of the main Islamist group in the Caucasus

According to Moscow, Aliaskhab Kebekov was gunned down along with two other militants of the Islamist group, during the siege of a residence in Buinaksk, where refugee.

The 43-year-old theologian's death was also confirmed by several Islamist sites on the Internet.

Kebekov had assumed the leadership of the armed Caucasus Emirate group, in March last year. The radical Islamist movement, close to the Al-Qaida network, and comprising a number of separatists from Chechnya and Dagestan, advocates for years to establish a Caliphate in the North Caucasus regions.

The Organization had claimed an attack in December in the capital of Chechnya, which has killed 15 policemen, wounding 36 other people.
