Japan: 93 people rescued alive from a fire on a ferry

The fire broke out at the end of Friday afternoon in a vehicle parked in the loading area of the vessel.

93 people were rescued alive from the ship. A crew member is reported missing.

One of the survivors stated that "the smoke and the heat were terrible" and that the fire was too intense.

The fire broke out when the ship Sunflower Daisetsu was about 55 km from its destination, the port of Tomakomai, in the South of the island of Hokkaido.
