In the Lazio region, of which Rome is the capital, a man was killed in his car when it crashed in a crater, opened by the violence of the strong floods.

The Italian authorities remained on high alert Thursday and so shall remain until the weekend.

Heavy rains are expected in the South of the peninsula, such as Calabria, Puglia, Basilicata and the island of Sicícilia, which could cause new floods.

The Italian Minister of the environment, Luca Galleti said the dangers linked to the floods have been ignored for a long time in your country:

"Our country is in a situation of risk for a long time, because we have neglected and because we did not take the necessary preventive measures"

The lack of regulation in the civil construction sector, especially from the second World War did not more than exacerbate the problem.
