Myanmar: only half of the guerrillas signed a cease-fire

The agreement, negotiated over two years, aims to put an end to the ethnic conflicts that are undermining the country and initiate a process of dialogue within a month of the legislative elections.

The eight guerrillas signatories of the agreement were removed from the list of illegal and terrorist organizations.

Seven other organizations that had been invited to sign the cease-fire not signed because of the refusal of the Government, formed by former generals, to include about a dozen other armed groups.
