Kurds demonstrating in Istanbul against Turkish military operations

Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse hundreds of people in the town's main square, Taksim. Dozens of police mutiny, with anti protective equipment, chased demonstrators into side streets. Two were arrested. Merchants had to close the shops to tourists.

It is a protest to denounce the military operations against the Kurdish community. More than a hundred militants of the Kurdistan Workers ' Party were gunned down in the last five days, during a large-scale army intervention that continues in the region of South-Eastern Turkey.

A total of 10000 men supported by tanks were deployed for this offensive designed to dislodge Kurdish militants from urban centers, in two cities near the borders of Iraq and Syria, Bezabde and Girikoma.
