Pro-Kurdish paper party leader criticizes Ankara during visit to Moscow

The leader of the pro-Kurdish paper HDP met, this Wednesday in Moscow with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov. Selahattin Demirtas criticized the Turkish Government for having shot down the Russian plane in November.

In view of the tension between Ankara and Moscow, the meeting may be perceived by Turkish President, Recep Tayiip Erdogan, as a provocation. The Russian side, Lavrov praised the Kurdish fighters.

"We are aware that the Kurds in Iraq and Syria stand, guns in their hands, to threats of Islamic State and other extremist groups. In the future we're interested in your opinion, "said Sergei Lavrov, Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The pro-Kurdish paper party leader was keen to stress that condemns the attitude of Ankara: "we talked openly criticised the attitude of the Turkish Government when he shot down the Russian plane".
