Honduras: students protest against the murder of Berta Caceres

Hundreds of students of the University of Honduras, were involved in clashes with police in the capital, Tegucigalpa.

Young people were protesting against the murder of the activist, Berta Caceres.

The indigenous leader and environmentalist's death caused consternation and dislike in Honduran society.

Caceres was murdered, by two gunmen who broke into their house in the town of Esperanza, in the West of the country, in the early hou rs of Thursday.

Berta Caceres had terminated a week ago, have been threatened for opposing the construction of a hydroelectric project.

The activist was one of the founders of the Civic Council of Popular and indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), in 1993, and he led protests and demonstrations in defence of human rights of the indigenous communities and the environment.
