Amnesty International denounces the "failure" of the UN investigation into missing Kosovo war

A "failure," is how Amnesty International classifies the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), which investigated the kidnapping and murder of Kosovar Serbs after the war that occurred between 1998 and 99.

The human rights organization released this Tuesday, a report critical of the role of the United Nations, on the eve of the meeting of the UN Security Council on Kosovo scheduled for Thursday, August 29.

In the document, Amnesty International calls on the UN to "solve" the legacy left by the conflict.

The Association of relatives of people kidnapped and murdered in Kosovo was pleased that "the international community begin slowly to recognize that the Kosovo Albanians were not the only victims" of the war.

The Organization considers that the "failure" of the UN mission "has contributed to the climate of impunity that prevails in Kosovo". "The years passed and we still don't know what happened to the missing people in two fields," said the report.

The fate of more than 1700 people missing during the war remains unknown. The Kosovo conflict led to the deaths of about 13 thousand people.
