Belarus: arrest of Russian diplomatic dispute causes Executive Chairman

Detention in Belarus of Vladislav Baumgertner, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian company Uralkali, the world's largest producer of potash, provoked a diplomatic incident between the two countries.

Baumgertner was detained in Minsk, where he visited at the invitation of the Belarusian Prime Minister to discuss the dispute originated at the end of "joint-venture" Belarusian trade Belaruskali, created in 2005, which controlled 40% of world trade of potassium.

"The Embassy urges the immediate release of Mr Baumgertner and want explanations about everything that happened. He came at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus with whom he should have had a meeting, "said Russia's Ambassador Alexander Surikov.

Vladislav Baumgertner is accused of abuse of power and incurs a penalty of up to ten years in prison.

At the same time that the scandalous detention considers Uralkali Minsk evokes losses of nearly 100 million dollars.
