Syria: UN Inspectors ensure that first day on the job was "productive"

The 20 UN inspectors that are in Syria to investigate the use of chemical weapons ensure that first day on the job was very productive, even after column followed have been hit the shot by snipers. According to the information of the United Nations first group's vehicle was hit continuously by "unidentified snipers".

No one was injured in this attack. The caravan of cars from the UN was being escorted by Syrian security services. The inspectors were taken to a safe space until they replaced vehicles, having followed later to the place of investigation, in Eastern Ghouta, on the outskirts of Damascus.

The Syrian regime has already guaranteed that the shots were fired by the rebels.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, in statements made in South Korea, already reacted to this attack. Ban Ki-moon gave instructions to the UN High Representative for disarmament, Angela Kane, who is in Damascus to "lodge a complaint to the Syrian Government and the leaders of the opposition for a situation like that doesn't happen again and to guarantee the safety of the inspectors." The UN Secretary-General also said that "team will have enhanced security starting tomorrow and that expects a full report."

Even after the attack the team met with victims of the Wednesday attack, allegedly carried out by the Syrian army, using chemical weapons. The international community expects the conclusions of this inspection to decide whether advances or not with a military action in Syria.
