Syrian refugees rescued off the Italian coast

The coast guard and the Navy of Italy rescued about 350 people, mostly from Syria, this Wednesday off the coast of Sicily. According to local authorities, individuals were found in two boats. One of them travelled 200 people who claim the Syrians, but as they had no documents is more difficult to confirm nationalities. In this group were 48 children, one of them with just 4 days and that will be born during the voyage.

The second vessel was carrying around 150 migrants whose nationalities have not yet confirmed form. But because of the conflict in Syria, the number of refugees trying to flee the country towards Europe through Italy has increased in recent weeks.

Illegal immigrants intercepted by Italian authorities are taken to State immigration centers.
