Greenpeace: "Arctic Sunrise" was in international waters when it was taken by storm

Jasper Teulings, Attorney for the environmental organization Greenpeace said the icebreaker Arctic Sunrise was in international waters when it was seized by armed men assault the Russian Coast Guard.

"We don't know if the ship was arrested and we wouldn't be surprised if it had been, because that would be illegal. According to international law the ships have the right of freedom of passage. The ship was in international waters, outside the Russian territorial waters, at the time it was taken by storm, "said the lawyer.

The Russian Federal Security Agency decided to tow the ship to the port city of Murmansk, and is "preparing the documentation to undertake legal proceedings" against the crew of the vessel.
