Abnormal seismic activity threatens gas storage complex

The Spanish Government ordered the suspension of the operation of complex underground gas storage Beaver, in Vinerós, in front of the Ebro River Delta due to increased seismic activity.

A total of 24 earthquakes, whose maximum intensity exceeded 4 degrees on the Richter scale shook the Gulf of Valencia this morning.

Technicians from the Ministry of industry visited in recent days the Beaver complex to verify the suspension of gas injection underground sea believed to be responsible for earthquakes.

The Minister of industry claims that "there seems to be a direct correlation between the gas injection which occurred in underground storage, which is 22 miles off the coast and earthquakes occurring during the last fifteen days".

This is one of the largest complex of its kind among the five existing in Spain. The strongest aftershocks this morning had epicenter at sea about 100 kilometers to the northeast of Beaver complex.

The company that manages the factory the Scales said the UGS seismic data were collected and reported immediately to the company at local, regional and national level.
