Australia: combating fires hampered by conditions particularly rude

The temperatures in the mountainous area around Sydney are approaching the 30 degrees Celsius and the dry winds can reach 100 miles an hour.

The Minister for emergency services from the State of new South Wales, Michael Gallacher, stresses that "the time has come [of the population] hear the warnings made throughout the week" and evacuate the zone of risk.

The fires that started from last Thursday destroyed more than 200 homes in small towns of the South and West of Sydney, also launching a huge cloud of smoke over the Australian metropolis.
