Egypt: five killed in new round of protests pró-Morsi

Supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi returned, this Friday, the streets of several Egyptian cities. The protests against the new Government, but also against the worst-ever army crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood were marked by clashes between police and protesters in Cairo, Alexandria and Assiut, in the South of the country. At least five protesters were killed and 18 others were injured after police used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the protests, of Cairo, Assiut, where there have been four deaths. During the day Friday, the marches have tried unsuccessfully to occupy Tahrir square or the entrance to the Presidential Palace in Cairo, as well as the center of various towns. The protests occur at a time when discussions between the new Government and the Islamists are suspended after the army has arrested or killed more than a thousand activists of the Muslim Brotherhood. Islamist movements have summoned several weekend protests to demand the resignation of the new Government controlled by the military.
