Georgia: ally of the Prime Minister's presumed presidential winner

In Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, leader of the rose revolution in 2003, leaves the political scene at the end of a decade, ceding the Presidency to opponents of the Coalition "Georgian Dream", who had already won the legislation last year.

The projections to the mouth of the polls give for granted the election of Georgy Margvelashvili already this Sunday.

The candidate backed by the billionaire Prime Minister of Georgia must obtain more than two-thirds of the votes, while the chosen of Saakashvili, David Bakradze, collects around 20% of the votes.

A clear triumph for the coalition in power despite the economic slowdown that felt last year with GDP growth to fall to 1.5% in the second quarter, against 8.2% in same period in 2012.

After these elections, constitutional changes entered into force that take many powers to the President, transferring them to the Government and the Parliament of this former Soviet Republic in the Caucasus that is still looking for a difficult balance in its relations with the West and with Russia.
