Greece: pre-trial detention confirmed for the leader of the extreme right

The leader of the right-wing Greek party, Golden Dawn, was in custody pending trial. Nikos Mihaloliakos appeared before a judge in Athens, to respond to the charges of belonging to a "criminal organisation".

Mihaloliakos went to court a few hours after four other members of neo-Nazi formation be formally accused of the same crime. Abroad, the wife of Mihaloliakos and hundreds of party activists have expressed themselves with slogans against the Government and the media.

In pre-trial detention was also Yannis Lakes, suspected of involvement in the death, on September 18, the musician and anti-fascist militant Pavlos Fyssas. This murder motivated, for the first time, an Executive's offensive against the Golden Dawn, which are expensed, in recent years, several acts of violence against immigrants and leftist militants, in total impunity.
