Berlusconi: the politician who wanted to be different from the politicians

The President of AC Milan created Forza Italia to occupy the space left vacant by the Christian Democrats. The party wanted to put individual freedom and the market in the Centre of political activity and throw the country into an era of prosperity. Berlusconi had at your service a media empire.

Berlusconi wins elections and goes for leadership of the Government, but you have to join the National Alliance, Gianfranco Fini, and the Northern League of Umberto Bossi.

His first Executive had a short life. The Northern League abandoned the boat when Berlusconi decided to put in the drawer the federalization of the State promised. On December 22, 94 Berlusconi is forced to resign.

Berlusconi will take six years to return to power. During the 2001 election campaign, the candidate signs a contract with Italians, during a television talk show on public station, and promises liberal reforms and a general lowering of taxes.

The millionaire ends up winning the election at the head of a party renamed the House of freedoms. This time the electorate gives you the absolute majority which would allow Berlusconi fulfill a five-year term, something never seen in Italian politics since the end of World War II.

Il Cavaliere foreign policy supports the Texan George w. Bush in the Iraqi adventure and sends troops to the Middle East despite the opposition of Italian public opinion.

The courts are part of Berlusconi's life despite promises a different way of doing politics. The delaying tactics and the prescription of the crimes always allowed him to escape a conviction for bribery or accounting fraud.

The second term is marked also by the jokes and the loudmouth style Italian Prime Minister.

The July 2003 episode, during the plenary session of the European Parliament, is a good example:

"Mr. Schulz, I know that in Italy they're doing a film about the Nazi concentration camps. I suggest him to apply for the role of Chief of the field. "

In 2008 Berlusconi starts his third term in charge of the Government, this time in the leadership of the people of freedom, your third party project, and begins by promising a reduction of taxes and pursue illegal immigration.

But this is also the mandate of the sexual scandals that will lead to the courts, charged with inciting prostitution of minors with abuse of power.

Despite all these problems, Berlusconi was only defeated by Italian sovereign debt crisis in 2011. The November 13 Il Cavaliere resigns and is replaced by Mario Monti.
