Germany: Last round of negotiations for a "Grand Coalition"

The objective of these negotiations is the formation of a CDU/SPD coalition Government, but the most outstanding obstacles remained to the end.

If the agreement is achieved, it will still have to be submitted to the approval of the approximately 470 thousand activists of the SPD, in early December, so nothing will be for definite.

On the street, protesters demanded more direct democracy through referenda to be voters to decide and not the parties. Unlike the CDU from Merkel, the Social Democrats are open to holding of the referendums.

If the project of the "Grand Coalition" fails, alternatively the conservatives could resume negotiations with the Greens, or new elections could be called. Theoretically the Conservatives would have the possibility of opting for a minority government tolerated by the SPD.
