Increases the tension in Thailand

Opposition protesters surround government buildings and require the resignation of the Government.

The police have ordered the arrest of one of the leaders of the protest movement, but the Government promised not to use violence, since the demonstrations have been peaceful.

"It's not violence manifest around the Government building. Is the right of the people according to the Constitution ".

The popular revolt is motivated by the Amnesty bill under consideration since October.

The text is seen by the opposition as a means to allow the return to power of former Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, ousted in 2006, brother of the current Prime Minister.

Thaksin went into exile abroad to avoid the conviction of two years in prison for misuse of public money, but continues to have influence in Thai politics.

The Senate rejected the Amnesty project, but the measure was not enough to satisfy the protesters.

The Government faces a vote of no confidence today.

The opposition leader ahead of the demonstrations, Suthep Thaugsuban, who was number 2 of the previous Government led by the Democratic Party, has appealed to the armed forces and the police to join the protesters and listen to the claims of the people.

Analysts estimate that the Thai Prime Minister will not resist in Office for long. But the head of Government says that's not going to resign.
