Philippines: humanitarian aid and logistical nightmare

For the United Nations is truly a "logistical nightmare" to assist the approximately 12 million people affected by the disaster. Ten days after the passage of the typhoon, the United Nations fears even though some islands of the Philippines have not yet received any help.

On the small island of Manicani, in the province of Samar, aid came to an end in 5 days. But with 90% of infrastructure destroyed, the population does not know how to survive.

"The truth is it's going to be difficult. We lost our boats, we can't go fishing, "says an inhabitant. A lady says: "we need a roof over your head, even if it's just a tent or something to cover your head when it rains".

The typhoon caused four million displaced and at least five thousand people are dead or reported missing.

The cost of reconstructing the country may exceed the billion, authorities estimate. "They will be more than the 500 million dollars that the World Bank will lend added to 500 million from the Asian Development Bank," said Florencio Abad, Budget Secretary of State.
