Successful disintegration for the GOCE satellite

Out of fuel since October, it was known that the satellite will enter the atmosphere a day, but no one knew where.

What remains of the mill, about 25%, have fallen in the Atlantic, South of the Falkland Islands.

This was the first mission of ESA, the European Space Agency, in 25 years, making an uncontrolled atmospheric entry. And maybe one of the last. The rules have changed in the meantime: an international agreement requires now that the satellites are equipped with a propulsion system that make them fall into the sea, far from any inhabited areas.
