Erdogan: "there are networks in the State and are used as tools" in corruption scandal

The Prime Minister of Turkey reacted to the case that is shaking the foundations of the country's power elite.

16 people were formally charged with corruption, fraud and money laundering in the context of a first survey on gold sales and financial transactions between Turkey and Iran, a country under sanctions from the international community.

Among those arrested are the children of Ministers of Interior and economy. "There are networks in the State and are used as tools in this matter. We're blowing them the game. As we wrote off the Gezi Park protests, also here we will ruin their intentions, "said the head of Government.

Among those arrested is also the Director-General of one of the largest state-owned banks in the country. The Halkbank is suspected to have been the conduit for the irregular movement of Iran for Turkey of more than 87 billion euros.

As a result of this operation and the justification of having hidden the police investigations, dozens of police officers were dismissed.
