Khodorkovsky after prison to freedom in Berlin

Ten years after his incarceration Mihkail Khodorkovsky is already in Berlin. A trip organized by former German Foreign Minister Dietrich Genscher.

The former oil Tycoon, once one of the richest men in Russia, was freed after Vladimir Putin grant him a pardon. A decision that caught everyone by surprise, as explained by Lyudmila Alexeyeva, known Russian human rights activist:

"A lot of people thought there would never be peace between these two men. This Act, unexpected, forgiveness is, naturally, a great joy. "

For many this volte-face is seen as an attempt by Russia to improve its international image ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskayte, is one of the people who advocate this theory:

"It was possible to release it sooner because it is simple to do it. There is no need for court or rule of law. Is the President of the country to decide, not the Court, the judicial system. But, probably, there is another issue here: the Olympic Games in Sochi. There were a number of hostile reactions, in relation to Russia, on the human rights situation, which led some countries to reduce their level of participation, their political participation. ''

Khodorkovsky already assumed to have made the request for forgiveness, for family reasons but, contrary to popular speculation, made no admission of guilt.
