Iran: EU eases sanctions for half a year

The agreement that limits uranium enrichment came in, this Monday, in force and is to hold in the next six months.

According to the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Tehran is to respect the compromise reached in November in Geneva.

The partial lifting of sanctions is one of the consequences of the implementation of the agreement as explained by Catherine Ashton, EU's head of diplomacy.

"We are pleased to announce the implementation by Iran of the measures provided for in the agreement. We decided, therefore, to suspend some sanctions against Iran during six months. The implementation of measures throughout this period will be crucial. "

In Exchange for relief from sanctions, Tehran undertakes not to enrich uranium up to five percent. Excluded are also building new centrifuges.

"I'm optimistic on relations with Iran, but I prefer to see it to believe it. To advance actions are needed. I hope that the final agreement there are clear commitments not only by Iran, but to give evidence on the international stage "refers to the Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Renders.

The commitment may be extended provided that Tehran reaches an understanding with the international community.

Euronews: "Began the countdown with the partial lifting of sanctions. The negotiators now have six months to get a definitive agreement. "
