The Turkish Government wants total control over magistrates

The legislation was proposed by the Government and approved after a tense debate that lasted 8:0 pm and ended up in physical violence and three deputies hospitalized.

The text, which reform the main judicial body of the country, the Supreme Council of judges and prosecutors of Turkey, authorizes the Minister of Justice to restructure its composition and gives it a high control over its operation.

Includes clauses that grant the Minister of justice the right to promote investigations to members of Council and to decide the issues under discussion during the meetings.

The proposal has caused concern to the European Union (EU) and the United States who fear for the independence of the Turkish judicial system.
