Eastern Ukraine under strong tension on eve of referendum in Crimea

The Ukrainian territories near the border with Russia are under strong tension on the eve of the referendum in Crimea.

As in Khirkiv, in the city of Donetsk political demonstrations had been prohibited, but a local Court annulled the ban and pró-russos citizens maintains the pressure on the streets against Kiev.

The President-in-Office, Oleksander Turchinov, accuses Russia of fomenting the violence:

"There is only one law and those who try to destabilize the situation, trying to break into buildings, which act in contravention of the Constitution are working for those who are trying to the annexation of the territory of Ukraine, working for the enemies of the Ukrainian people".

Last night, in Khirkiv two men were killed in clashes between pró-russos and pró-ucranianos. The two groups used fire arms. On Thursday, another individual was fatally stabbed in Donetsk.

In Ukraine, many believe that Russia does not intend to attach only to Crimea. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence announced this afternoon that the air force of the country prevented an attempted entry of Russian soldiers in a Ukrainian territorial range, on the border with the Crimea.
